Is it right: blogger or blogger?

The problems of spelling on the Internet for some reason turn out to be somewhat arbitrary, there are often even indignant comments that this is not a grammar exam, but only the World Wide Web. Fortunately, the progressive part of users does not share this point of view and strives for harmony, part of which can be considered a literate letter. The most difficult, perhaps, with borrowed words. The most vivid example is the lengthy debate about how to write correctly: a blogger or a blogger. Philologists have not yet come to a common opinion about the correct spelling of this word, but the opinion on this issue can be compiled using analysis and logic.

Where did the bloggers come from and who are bloggers?

The popular form of the information space on the Internet is the blog, and the person leading it is called a blogger (or blogger). The popularity of blogs is the absolute availability of this type of creativity or simply communication with the outside world. There are several large platforms that provide an opportunity for everyone who wants to own their own resources. And this despite the possibility of organizing your own independent blog on a second-level domain and paid hosting.

The person who leads the blog, regardless of subject or platform, is called a blogger. By and large, this is the name of any network user, the leading electronic diary, even if it is only for placing beautiful pictures or jokes.

Correct spelling of loan words

In Russian there is a simple rule: borrowed words are written in the same way as in the original language, although Cyrillic letters are used instead of Latin letters. From English, the word blog came to us, as well as the word blogger. If you apply a simple transliteration, replacing the Latin letters with Russian, then the result is a double letter "g". In disputes on the topic "Blogger or blogger" many rely on this rule, which acts in a similar way with respect to all borrowed English words.

Between two vowels, the consonant is doubled if a so-called "ingo" ending or "-er" suffix is used. So, from the noun "blog" it turns out "blogging" - blogging, and "blogger" is the user, the leading blog. Similar problems in Russian are observed with other pairs of borrowed words: shop and shopping, jog and jogging, although in these two variants there are quite often variants with a reduced paired consonant. Depending on the frequency of appearance in the field of vision, the abbreviated version begins to seem correct.

The opinion of philologists

In disputes on the topic of correct spelling, as correct: blogger or blogger, - it seems logical to address the issue to philologists. In Russian, this double consonant letter does not comply with the rules, so many linguists adhere to the following logical chain.

If borrowed only consider the word "blog", then its creator should be called a "blogger". This word is formed by the method of adding the suffix "-er" to the borrowed word, analogous to the word "combiner". That is, to the borrowed word "harvester" is added only a suffix, which justifies the absence of a double consonant.

The opinion of robots

Often the correctness of writing a word is checked by the reaction of search robots. If you specify the word "blogger" in the Google search engine, then a relatively smaller number of results are dropped than when the blogger requests it. However, on the second request, the system also produces pages that contain the English word blogger, and the leading first line is the popular blog platform of the same name. The search system "Yandex" reacts similarly.

Quite recently, just a couple of years ago, the situation was reversed: the dual consonant was recognized by robots as the most popular and correct option. Why did everything change so much? In fact, everything is simple - the behavior of search robots is affected by user requests. Concerning writing "blogger" or "blogger", "Literacy.Ru" (a popular Internet portal dedicated to the proper use of the Russian language) insists that it is correct to write with one letter "g", although in the course of discussion the dual consonant does not admit A single mistake.

And what do the dictionaries say?

For quite understandable reason, debaters do not have the opportunity to address to well-deserved and authoritative dictionaries - neither Dahl nor Rosenthal had the opportunity to include in his collections the words that entered our vocabulary just a few years ago. If it is not possible to open the dictionary, then where can I find out how it is written: "blogger" or "blogger", how it can be found out and what sources to believe?

In this case, the authoritative can be considered the "Russian spelling dictionary" edited by V. V. Lopatin, issued by the Russian Academy of Sciences. This edition considers the spelling of the "blogger" to be correct, it is this link to the already mentioned portal "Diploma. Ru" that refers to it.

Disputes in the Internet

Perhaps the most fruitless method of clarifying the truth is the debate on the Internet. The problem is that the arguers in most cases rely on two main arguments - their own opinion and references to popular sources. Advantage in the dispute is not for someone who has a large amount of knowledge, and the one who knows the most plausible to build logical chains. As a result, the goal is not the establishment of absolute truth, but the gymnastics of the mind. So a blogger or a blogger? How to explain and prove it?

First of all, it is worthwhile to understand that the phrase "I hear so" is an extremely weak argument, since this is a subjective opinion. Most of the above sources argue that it is correct to write all the same "blogger". Why did it happen so?

Flexible Linguistics

Linguistics as such is quite flexible and changing discipline. Words become obsolete, mutate, and even lose letters. As an example, "coffee" is perfect - this word has recently changed the gender from the male to the middle. It happened because of the loss of the consonant letter at the end - the "kofi" was really masculine, and for a long time after losing the letter "coffee" kept the family assigned to it until recently. But now the processes are accelerating, so in the question: "Blogger or blogger - how to write correctly?" - confidently leads the first option. This is primarily due to the property of the Russian language gradually reduce the "unnecessary" letters or even syllables.

First of all, the borrowed words are subjected to changes. In the process of use, they gradually adjust to the logic of the Russian language. To describe this process, the well-defined term "detach" is often used.

How do you write: blogger or blogger?

Despite assurances from authoritative sources, a rather wide layer of the public continues to use spelling with a double "g", for these people there is only one answer to the question "Blogger or blogger - how to spell correctly?" These people continue to use "coffee" in the masculine gender and do not hurry to join the new directives. Until such a commitment to established norms turns into an openly old-fashioned one, this approach to spelling is quite acceptable and does not look out of place.

The logic of reasoning here is quite simple. Since the word "blogger" is borrowed, the simplest way to avoid mistakes is to use transliteration. The original word is still the English word blogger, so this spelling can not be considered erroneous. At the moment, both options are acceptable for use, the only limitation, perhaps, is the principle of text formation, within which it is desirable to use only one form of a controversial word. Exceptions can be called studies and articles, once again trying to choose the most correct option and judge the disputants.
