In Windows 10 "Start" does not open: what to do?

The fact that in the new Windows version of the tenth version again appeared painfully all the familiar "Start" button and the corresponding menu, was received by users with great enthusiasm. However, the joy turned out to be somewhat premature, because sometimes there is something that does not open the Start menu in Windows 10. Now it will be considered how to fix this situation by the simplest methods.

In Windows 10 , "Start" does not open: possible causes of failures

To start with, the "ten" itself in the form of the initial version of the Technical Preview was quite raw. In addition, it was installed as an update to an existing system.

From here you can immediately conclude why the Windows Start menu is not displayed. The most important reason is that many experts call the mistakes of the previous OSes, which the "ten" inherited. And this is primarily due to the system registry or local group policies, the parameters of which simply duplicate registry keys. We will return to this later.

After the Windows 10 update, "Start" does not open: what should I do?

So far, let's look at a slightly different situation. Although initially it was claimed that for the "dozen" updates will not be released, they come out with enviable constancy. There can be a situation that is typical of almost all systems.

This may be incorrect installation of the update or the very "clumsy" update. What should I do if Windows Startup does not open after the update? To begin with, it is worth paying attention to whether the button (and the menu, respectively) worked before the update was installed. If so, you can try simply to start the system restore in the standard way, with the choice of the checkpoint preceding the installation of the update.

Again, in Windows 10 does not open "Start"? You can manually remove the update package. Only in this case, when sorting packages, you need to sort by installation date, and then delete them one at a time and then reboot the system to determine which update caused the failure.

After that, you can block the found package (disable its installation) and perform a new search and installation of new packages. Only the search for critical updates, which are usually needed to update the security system, must be done manually, and it is desirable to do this immediately after blocking the batch packet or packets.

Mandatory system check

So, still does not open the "Start" Windows 10. In this case, it is strongly recommended to conduct a system check. But you do not need to do this using a standard disk or partition scan utility, but with a special command.

This means sfc / scannow, which is written on the command line (calling cmd from the "Run" menu). To enter the menu, you can also use the Win + R keys. If, after a full scan, the "Start" menu does not appear in Windows 10, go to the next step.

Correcting registry entries

Now we have to make some changes in the system registry, but with this you need to be extremely careful.

First, you log into the registry itself (the regedit command), then go down the HKCU branch and go to the CurrentVersion section, where you select the Explorer string. On the right side, in the advanced settings, a 32-bit DWORD parameter is created), which must be called EnableXAMLStartMenu, and then set it to "0". If such a parameter is already assigned, it must be changed to the same value (zero). It's unclear why, but the system sometimes does not perceive the configuration by default.

At the same time, if you do not want to manually register all parameters in the registry (or there is no possibility), sometimes you can use a special script in the form of an automatic command entered in the "Run" menu, but it only duplicates the prescribed values and parameters.

Using PowerShell

Now look at the button and the menu. In Windows 10 does not open "Start" even after that? We pass to the cardinal actions. It will require the use of special algorithms PowerShell.

Call the "Task Manager" or three-finger combination Ctrl + Alt + Del, or the taskmgr command. In the window that appears, we are interested in the file menu where you need to create a new task and enter it in the PowerShell field and run as administrator.

Now the most important thing: we enter the executable code as a special line and wait for the completion of the process. You can ignore the errors that arise . After that, the button and the menu will start working.

Instead of concluding

As you can see, if Windows does not open the "Start", nothing particularly terrible in this. The methods of fixing this situation are quite simple and can be done by any user. Another thing is the issues related to the so-called clean installation, for example, Windows 10 Pro, Home or Enterprise. Most likely, if the "Start" does not work, it was due only to the fact that the installation of the new system was done without formatting the hard drive. And the errors of the previous version, too, could have been preserved. In any case, we will have to look for the root cause, but it is very likely that these versions were updated, perhaps the distribution or image of the disk was downloaded from an unofficial source, but how little it can be.

If none of the above methods can help even after a clean installation, the installation will have to be done anew, and at least at least part of the system disk or partition will be used. If you want to save some information while doing this, it will need to be copied to another section or, say, to removable media in the form of a regular USB stick.
