Hyperemia of the skin - what is it? Causes of skin flushing

Many people often have hyperemia of the skin. What is it, those who are exposed to strong influence of wind, high or low temperatures know. This, rather, is not an independent disease, but its symptom. The degree of danger of hyperemia depends on the disease to which it indicates.

Definition of phenomenon

In medicine, it is commonly believed that the hyperemia of the skin is caused by excessive flow of blood to the tissues. Externally, it manifests itself as redness. Most often this phenomenon occurs on the face and hands. But the congestion can be found on any part of the skin, even on the head.

This disease has no age limitations. Redness of the skin is characteristic of both infants and elderly people. Their appearance is an occasion to listen to your own body. Red spots on the skin indicate a violation of blood flow in the body. If they are not removed in time, stagnant processes and more severe consequences than a simple cosmetic defect are possible.

Signs of congestion

Any long-term redness on the skin in medicine is called hyperemia. It even refers to changes in skin color due to human emotions. After all, everyone knows how blushing the face when someone is angry or displays shyness. But this is the easiest form of the symptom, which occurs immediately after a change in the emotional state.

The main sign of hyperemia is red, sometimes claret skin, which often becomes stained. Although there are frequent and uniform reddening of the skin.

In places where blood circulation is increased, the local temperature rises sharply. This is easily diagnosed even by touching the affected areas. In places of manifestation of hyperemia, a person feels a burning sensation and a rather unpleasant sensation.

If the cause of reddening are external factors - it will pass by itself. Internal changes in the body will maintain this state until the underlying disease is cured.

Types of disease

Physicians distinguish between arterial and venous reddening. For venous hyperemia is characterized by a violation of the outflow of blood. The reason for this is the insufficient work of the heart. It can not completely pump blood through blood vessels. It slows down, and in some cases stops altogether. In the skin and tissues there is edema. The walls of the vessels become strained. Consequences of prolonged venous hyperemia are organ atrophy and gangrene development. As a consequence, complete contamination of the blood and death of the patient is possible.

Less dangerous arterial hyperemia of the skin. What it is, it becomes clear when the elementary biology is recalled. Human vessels tend to expand and contract. A sharp change in their diameter due to external or internal factors inevitably leads to an increase in the flow of blood to the organs of man, including skin.

Symptoms of the onset of hyperemia

Each time hyperemia of the skin has the same course. First, the surface of the skin changes color. Its intensity increases from gently pink to red or burgundy. Sometimes even a cyanotic shade is possible.

Color change is uneven. First there are small spots that gradually increase in size and eventually can merge into one solid red blot. Its edges are uneven and uneven. Sharp transitions from saturated color to pale skin are possible.

An increase in the temperature of the outer layers of the body also indicates the onset of the disease. Although the increased total body temperature can cause redness.

Not so obvious symptom with an external examination is the expansion of the vessels. This can be diagnosed using special instruments.

What is behind the red spots?

Physicians are always alerted to hyperemia of the skin. What it is, and what it can testify about, is not immediately clear. This symptom can indicate a variety of diseases. But in any case, it can not be ignored.

External factors, such as strong and cold wind, air temperature drop, prolonged exposure to the sun, will necessarily cause redness of all open skin areas. But this phenomenon will pass quickly enough.

But persistent hyperemia indicates more serious internal disorders. First of all, this is an imbalance in the work of the humoral system. The mismatch of secreted hormones to the requirements of the body can cause blemishes on the skin. And psoriasis belongs to these diseases.

Systemic lupus is diagnosed primarily in the "red butterfly" on the face, which has a pronounced character.

An increase in the amount of hemoglobin in the blood also manifests itself in the form of hyperemia. It will also be a pointer to the problems with the work of the gastrointestinal tract.

Hyperemia is always accompanied by external skin lesions: bruises, acne, scars. To each of us at least once in a life there was a hyperemia of integuments. Photo of this manifestation is in almost every family album, although most people try to hide this unpleasant cosmetic defect.

Heal a disease - a symptom will disappear

It is unpleasant, when on a body there is a hyperemia of integuments. What it is, it becomes clear almost immediately. But how to remove it is a more complicated matter.

In fact, there is no point in treating the symptom itself, if it did not arise as a consequence of an external stimulus. Redness from wind or frost will pass by itself. The reaction to cosmetics will disappear if they are discarded. But more complex diseases must be treated in a comprehensive manner.

For the beginning it is necessary to put the exact diagnosis, which will explain what the hyperemia signals. After all, no compresses will not help if the cause of redness of the skin in the violation of hormonal exchange. Also, ointments will not help to heal systemic lupus erythematosus.

Therefore, it is better to immediately abandon the idea of self-treatment and seek help from a dermatologist, who will determine whether this is a cutaneous disease, or consult a therapist.

Folk remedies

If the patient is diagnosed with hyperemia, the reasons for which are clear and uncomplicated, then one can use popular methods. For example, the reddening of the scars on the wound site can be removed with the help of lotions from herbal decoctions. To do this, you need to brew ayr, string, burdock, raspberries, motherwort, celandine or mother-and-stepmother, slightly cool the broth and apply to the affected area. Strengthen the effect can be if you take these broths inside. But first it is worth consulting with a specialist, because some plants can be poisonous, if you do not observe the proportion.

With stagnant phenomena, you can do a massage to improve blood flow. At first the effect will be reversed, but eventually the skin color will return.

Folk remedies are effective only on condition that hyperemia is a cosmetic disease, and not a symptom of a more complex disease.

Hyperemia of the face

Women very often suffer from such a problem as redness of the skin on the face. So, cosmetological hyperemia manifests itself. Symptoms of it are the same as in other cases. If this phenomenon is systemic or permanent, it is necessary to start treatment.

You need to do this under the guidance of a dermatologist. After all, improperly selected cosmetics will exacerbate the problem rather than help with its solution.

In the elimination of redness on the face of a well proven zinc ointment. It does not dry the skin, but it contributes to its better regeneration. Also suitable for this purpose are special face creams.

You can also make lotions from herbal decoctions. To update a disposable rag mask is recommended once in 2-3 minutes.

In very difficult cases, you may need a hardware treatment that cauterizes small blood vessels and artificially reduces the amount of blood reaching the tissues of the facial skin.

Prevention of redness on the skin

The best treatment for hyperemia is its prevention. It is necessary to monitor the skin condition: it should always be clean, it should not be allowed to overheat and freeze.

Synthetic fabrics not only disrupt the temperature exchange, but also irritate the upper layers of the skin. This also causes hyperemia. Therefore, at least the underwear is best worn from natural fabrics.

And the appearance of the slightest incomprehensible reddening on the surface of the body should alarm every person. Of course, do not immediately run to the doctor if you notice a small red dot on the skin, but the constant and systemic nature of hyperemia is an excuse to seek specialized care. This is how you can avoid serious consequences, which will lead to delay.
