Hydronephrosis: treatment

Hydronephrosis is a disease that occurs as a result of a violation of the outflow of urine, resulting in an increase in hydrostatic pressure, which leads to the expansion of the renal calyces and pelvis, as well as atrophy and thinning of the renal tissue. Obstructions for urinary outflow can appear on any part of the urinary system.

Hydronephrosis can be both congenital and acquired. The disease occurs as a result of functional or anatomical changes. Causes of the disease may be urolithiasis, anomalies or inflammation of the ureter, additional vessels, kidney failure, congenital trauma or abnormalities of the urinary tract, prostate and various neoplasms of the bladder or ureter.

When the diagnosis of hydronephrosis, treatment is most often used operative. Depending on the location of the obstruction and its type, as well as the chronic or acute course of the disease, a certain surgical intervention is selected. In the case of hydronephrosis, treatment is aimed at eliminating the causes that prevent a normal outflow of urine. Also, the fluid accumulated during the course of the disease is drained.

Such an obstacle, like a stone, is eliminated by carrying out endoscopic operations.

If the patient has an acute obstruction of the urinary tract, complicated by inflammation of the kidney, the treatment is carried out in several stages. First, the kidney is drained through the introduction of a special tube, followed by anti-inflammatory treatment. After the kidney starts functioning normally, an operation is performed, the purpose of which is to remove the obstruction and restore the outflow of urine.

If the patient has urinary tract obstruction, as a result of which hydronephrosis has occurred, the treatment in this case involves the installation of a catheter. The next step eliminates the causes that led to the violation of the outflow of urine (the adenoma of the prostate is removed).

Congenital hydronephrosis. The initial manifestations of this disease quite often can disappear on their own, but often they are able to progress. In the presence of this disease, children need to visit a doctor-specialist 3-4 times a year and do the same number of times to do ultrasound.

In case of hydronephrosis, treatment can also be carried out with the help of folk remedies. Decoctions must be taken in conjunction with the main treatment.
