How to stop arterial bleeding at home?

Of all the bleeding, arterial bleeding is considered the most dangerous. Before you understand the peculiarities of arterial bleeding, you need to explain the importance of the arterial system as a whole.

So, the arterial system of a person is a system of arteries - the largest vessels that transport blood to the heart.

The arteries are deep enough, however, if there is still arterial bleeding, a person, if not render timely help, can quickly die.

In particular, if the carotid, femoral or axillary artery is damaged, death can occur within two to three minutes. In order to prevent such an outcome, it is necessary to stop the flow of blood to the site of damage. For this, the artery is pressed slightly above the wound. There are a number of points on the human body, clicking on which, you can easily and quickly squeeze this or that artery.

But this kind of help is temporary, it works until you make a pressure bandage. Stop arterial bleeding should be done quickly. Because the road is every second. Blood beats a fountain (blood ripples occur according to the rhythm of the heart), so there may be a lot of blood loss. On average, you have only 1-2 minutes to provide first aid.

Stop arterial bleeding in stages. The first stage - pressing the artery to the skin. Then the second stage begins - the application of a bandage (a tourniquet).

When bleeding from the femoral artery occurs , it often does not help to apply a pressure bandage . Such bleeding can be stopped by applying a loop or tourniquet. If you can not find a medical tourniquet, use what can replace it - a kerchief, a tie, a diaper, etc. When applying a tourniquet, it is necessary to cover the place of application with gauze or a bandage, so as not to affect the skin and nerve endings.

There are certain principles for applying a tourniquet according to the site of the artery damage:

  1. If the artery is damaged in the upper extremity, the tourniquet should be placed in the upper part of the shoulder. When the lower extremities are damaged, the superposition is performed in the middle of the thigh.
  2. It is necessary to apply a tourniquet rather tightly, but not to pinch the tissues. There can be serious consequences (due to clamping the blood ceases to circulate)
  3. It is important to remember that it is necessary to note the time when the tourniquet was applied. The note should be left on paper, and attach this note to the victim's clothes. Then this time is indicated in the medical record.
  4. IMPORTANT: It is forbidden to apply a tourniquet in the area of the lower extremities for more than an hour and a half, and for the shoulder region - for more than 45 minutes.
  5. Remember that arterial bleeding stops only when the harness is correctly applied. Also know that on top of the tourniquet it is forbidden to apply any bandage: the tourniquet itself should be clearly and clearly visible.

When the victim is given first aid, it must be urgently transported to a medical facility. If this is done quickly, there is no possibility, then after a maximum period of application of the tourniquet, it needs to be loosened a little for a quarter of an hour, and then re-tightened.

There is a concept of hidden bleeding. They are so called because they are not visible to the naked eye. Such bleeding can occur in patients with a stomach ulcer or duodenal ulcer. The loss of blood in this case is very dangerous, as anemia is rapidly developing. Such bleeding is determined in special laboratory conditions when examining feces for the presence of hidden blood.

Remember that arterial bleeding is very dangerous for human life, so if you had to provide medical care to such a patient, do it quickly and confidently!
