How to make the "fisheye" effect with your own hands?

Today's article is devoted to one of the most popular graphic effects called "fisheye". With your hands using the graphic editor Photoshop, you can achieve this visual stunt. In some sources, there are other names "fish" - "fisheye" or simply "lens". Fish-eye - so its name sounds in English. In real life, "fisheye" is produced using a special ultra-wide-angle lens. But when the photo is already taken, "Photoshop" comes to our aid.

Necessary funds

In order to make the "fisheye" effect with your own hands, you need a Photoshop graphics editor and, of course, the photo itself. Best of all, if the picture is captured on a high quality device with high resolution. For work, you can use any version of Photoshop. If you want, you can use any other program, the main thing is to understand the basic meaning of the idea.

Instructions

"Fishay" in "Photoshop" is created with the help of free transformation. And the main actions are performed with this function. So, let's begin.

  1. First you need to open the photo in the photo editor.
  2. Next, remove the block from the first layer (background). To do this, click on the lock icon several times in the layers panel.
  3. Create another new layer (Shift + ctrl + N). In the "Selection Tools", select the "Oval Area" (M).
  4. Right-click on the selected area and find the "Stroke". In properties, you can specify any values, but I recommend you choose a width of 4 pixels, and the color is black, the rest is left by default. Remove the selection (Ctrl + D)
  5. By pressing the "M" key, we right-click on the image. Choose "Free transformation and deformation" (once again, right-click on the picture). We need to do this in our initial image, where the photo is located.
  6. Here begins the most interesting. To create the "fisheye" effect with your own hands, you need to work a little manually. As a result of the fifth step, we got a black border, so we designated the visible area. Now we have to uniformly "drive" the rest of the image under this frame from all sides. For this, pull the control squares to the outside of the circle. Small oversights with unevenness are allowed. This is the main part of the work done.
  7. Let's go to the second layer where the circular frame is. Fill the outer part with black color. Click on "Filters" - "Blur" - "Blur with shallow depth of field". Where you need to specify the source, choose "Layer Mask". And we set the following values: "Focal distance blur 130"; "Radius: 17"; "Leaf curvature: 67". Click "OK".
  8. At this stage, almost everything is ready. It remains only to eliminate the oversight, which arose as a result of the 7 step. To do this, right-click on our photo and select "Free transformation". Increase the image until the edges of the picture will not go beyond the boundaries of the second layer, thereby eliminating all the irregularities. Change the width by pressing the "Shift" key, which will save you from disproportionate changes.

Conclusion

The effect of "fisheye" with your own hands in the program "Photoshop" is quite realistic. But to receive an exact copy of a natural photo, certainly, it will not be possible. There are also automated plug-ins that allow you to make the "fisheye" effect. "Photoshop" has a lot of opportunities, thanks to which you can achieve the most interesting visual tricks. So do not miss the chance to transform the look of the photo with modern technology.
