How to check your computer's microphone

In our everyday life, we regularly encounter not only a computer, but also all kinds of headset to it, and, in particular, with microphones. For what this device is needed, it makes no sense to talk, but how to check its work and find out about it will be superfluous. So, how to test the microphone? It is clear that only an expert can perform his full verification, since this requires certain equipment, special knowledge, and experience. But any person can do the usual, standard check with simple tests.

Let's try to understand how to test a microphone on a computer. If you do not hear anything when you connect it to the latter, this is not yet an indication that the device is defective. It is likely that the whole problem lies in the wrong connection of the microphone or the incorrect setting of the computer programs. So at first it would not hurt to check the output to which the connection was made. The microphone output has a corresponding icon. Also this connector can be painted in pink. If the connection is made correctly, but there is still no sound, try running the program-mixer, in the settings of which you can find the display of all inputs. After that make an additional inclusion of the display of the input for the microphone and adjust its parameters.

How to check the microphone, if it is connected and configured correctly, but does not record sounds? The reason for this can be just a malfunction of either the microphone itself or the sound card. Check whether the device works or not, you can connect it to another computer. If the device does not work on it, then there is no doubt: it is defective, it must be repaired or replaced with another one. If on another computer the microphone records sounds, then check the settings and soundness of the sound card of your PC.

And now a little about how to test the microphone in the headphones. Again, you must first of all pay attention to whether it is properly connected. After you have verified that the device plug is connected to the pink-colored jack, click "Start" and select "Control Panel" in the opened menu and "Sounds and Devices" after. Then go to the "Audio" tab and select "Audio recording". This tab has a microphone output of the sound card, which is set by default. If it turns out that you have two outputs, select the one that suits you best (FRONT (located on the front panel) or REAR (on the back).

Now in the "Sound recording" tab press the "Volume" button, and in the column "Microphone" be sure to check the box. Use the slider to set the volume level to maximum. If necessary, in the future you can always make it quieter in the same way. Close all tabs and check whether the microphone is recording the sound.

Select "Echo / Sound Test Service" in the contact list, make a test free call, during which you will be asked to record a short message after the signal, then listen to it. If the microphone is set up correctly, the recorded message is sure to be heard. If you do not hear anything, then in the "Check Settings" tab, adjust the volume. After that, make another call and check the device.
