How to Attract Pr Practitioners to the University For Professional Meetings With Students?
In the third year, having decided to start working on my specialty (public relations) - I faced a very important problem. It turned out that in spite of good marks on most profile subjects, in fact, I do not know anything. However, my classmates, making repeated attempts to get a job, tell me that they suffered the same fate. Why does this happen? For what reasons do students who are well trained in their specialty face such difficulties? We have excellent teachers at the institute! I believe that they try very hard and sincerely want to give us knowledge.
Telling us about the different types of PR, they are sure that we definitely need to know the peculiarities of each of them. Therefore, when you come to work, in full confidence that knowledge about public relations of all colors of the rainbow will immediately provide career growth, but in reality everything is completely different. Naturally, there will be no immediate dismissal, but immediately the first problems and mistakes will begin, and, alas, there will be many mistakes.
Of course, there is an option to step on the rake, which has already been tested by hundreds of students before me. But I would like to learn from other people's mistakes.
But who? Who will help tell about the problems that can be easily avoided in their first workdays? Perhaps, many will answer, "go to the institute, do not miss, and everything will be fine." But in fact in the institute the theory, and not practice, is the priority. So it turns out that you have to learn from your mistakes, which then will be beautifully called "experience". And if you think about it, the problem is solved surprisingly simply. It is only for students to listen to those who know something about PR, and it turns out that everything is surprisingly easy and much more fascinating than a dry theory.
And who does know in practical PR? Are not graduates of higher education institutions who graduated a few years ago, and now, having gained experience and knowledge, have an impressive list of 'first mistakes'?
There are several types of PR specialists. For example, those who call the publishing house with the phrase "our director is 45 years old, write about our organization." Those who do everything on the pattern are ridiculous, funny, and there are others who want to be equal, those that use 100% of their Creativity, who see the possibilities of public relations and their need, and they have something to tell, and it is they who want to learn, learn how they achieved such heights that it is necessary for this.
But for some reason they do not come, they do not share experience and knowledge, they do not tell anything ... And students fill their own cones or realize that public relations is not something to which one should dedicate his career. Once, one of the teachers said: "Most of you will work as directors of recruitment, some will advertise or sell, and only 3% will work in their specialty."
However, it is fair to say that when I achieve certain successes, I also will not go with the poster "I want to tell a lot about the students" to the nearest university. Therefore, I would like to ask to solve this problem of "low illumination of practitioners". As options for its solution, it is possible to organize student committees, which will search day and night for those who wish to share their experience, invite speakers and practitioners, telling them about the pros and cons of working with students.
And the practitioners are good, and how flattering when your name is in high school and with great interest listen and remember every word you say! And PR again is not bad for them, new people learn about your company or project, they tell friends and acquaintances ... And students benefit, knowledge is not bookish, but the most that is real, practical, receiving on their experience. And experience is power!
