How to align text in Word. How to align text vertically, widthwise and around the edges

Computer users have the opportunity to facilitate their work through various programs. Some can be used quite often, the latter - much less often, but there are programs that knowledge is necessary for any educated person. These programs can be attributed to Microsoft Word.

At employment the employer can be interested in knowledge of the personal computer of the employee. Often this program is meant. A person who does not know the Microsoft Word program can hardly be called a PC user.

What is Word for?

Microsoft Word is a program that is necessary for typing, composing, editing and printing documents. Here you can print any text: abstract, diploma or book. Thanks to the additional functions, the user can arrange the text at his discretion: change the font, its size and color, select a text fragment with other colors and insert pictures. Knowledge of how to align the text in the "Word" is one of the fundamental. Convenient is the program Microsoft Word and the fact that it makes it possible to compile tables.

An open Word window is a blank page on which you can print text using the keyboard . Additional programs are added automatically. Microsoft Word has great opportunities for editing text, for this there are special buttons. If desired, for convenience, often used functions can be displayed directly on the screen.

A variety of tools for registration often hinders inexperienced users, since it is rather difficult to understand everything at once. Formatting can be inconsistent if the tools conflict with each other, as a result of which users are disappointed in this program. But with the further development of Word there is a certainty that it is indispensable for creating text documents.

Microsoft Word 2007: buttons for text alignment

Buttons with which the text can be aligned as needed in a particular case are in the "Home" section, in the "Paragraph" group. There are proposed to the user's attention the following ways of alignment:

  • To the left. This function allows you to arrange the text according to the indentation line of the left edge of the document. Indent from the right edge can be completely different.
  • Align text centered. In each line, you can set the text so that the same indent is maintained from both fields. On the side margins, the text will not be aligned. Most often this function is used to create title pages of various documents, as well as to write headings.
  • Align text vertically. This position of the text is determined by the margins of the upper and lower margins. You should go to the "Page Layout" section, then "Page Setup" and "Layout". The "Vertical alignment" field sets the required values.
  • On the right. The text is ordered along the line of the right margin, the alignment does not occur on the left.
  • It is important to know how to align the text to the width. The characters are aligned to the left and right margins equally.

These methods will be effective if you first select the text that you want to format, and only then select the desired function.

Since almost all documents require the layout of the text with the same indents on both sides, you need to know how to align the text to the width. But in this case, you need to know one thing: words in the sentence can be separated by spaces of indeterminate length. This can be when long words stand one after another in a single line. To avoid this situation, you need to enable the function "Word wraps". The tool is located in the "Page Layout", "Hyphenation" section.

Sometimes you want to align the text to the right, but this is rarely used.

To make the text look correct, you need to apply the entire writing style to the whole document and know how to align the text in the "Word". The combination of several species is allowed in exceptional cases, when such a need arises.

Align text in tables

When the table is populated by default, the text is aligned to the left and top edges of the cell at the same time. To change this position, you need to do the following:

  • Select the part of the text that you need to format, move the mouse over the selected range, and press the right button.
  • In the context menu that opens, select the "Align in a cell" command, and then the alignment method.

How do I change the fields in a cell?

In tables, the gap from the edge of the cell to the text is determined by the values of the fields. To make changes, select the entire table and select the "Table Properties" item, and then the "Table" tab. In the "Parameters" section there are "Default cell fields", here you need to enter specific values.

When there is a need to change the fields of a certain cell, it is necessary to select it. In the "Table Properties" item, select the "Cell" line, then "Parameters" and clear the check box next to the phrase "As in the whole table".

Text orientation

By default, the text that is entered in the table is placed horizontally. If necessary, you can change the orientation to vertical. To do this, select specific cells and go to the "Format" and "Text Direction" section. Next, you must select the desired text placement and confirm your choice by clicking OK.

Fields and ruler

Indents in MS Word are set by default, or manually. To do this, go to the "Page Setup" tab, "Fields". If necessary, you can place the text in the part of the sheet where this is required by the rules for filling a particular document.

The second tool that allows you to understand how to align the text in the "Word" is the ruler. With its help, you can define the tabs for each paragraph individually or for a specific part of the text.

You can call up the "Page Setup" tab in two ways:

  • Use two mouse clicks with the left mouse button in the ruler area.
  • On the toolbar, find the "Page Layout" item and select the "Custom Fields" line.

The ruler should be displayed at the top and left of the screen. If it is not visible, you need to turn it on. This can be done in the "View" tab by ticking the "Ruler" line. Each slider is responsible for its area, moving them, you can figure out how to align the text in the "Word".

The word processor Word is considered one of the most popular. It is used both for work and for personal purposes. Although menu items in different versions of the program differ from each other, their essence does not change. Ample opportunities allow you to create any documents and send them to print.
