How is the Olympic torch relay going?

The Olympic Games attract the attention of the whole world. They are preceded by a big holiday - the torch relay of the Olympic flame. Torchbearers move along a certain route up to the capital of the Olympics, and then the opening of the Games is announced at the end point.

In our country, the "Sochi 2014" relay race started on 7.10.13. For 123 days, 14,000 torchbearers and 30,000 volunteers visited 2,900 settlements, overcoming 535 km a day. The total distance (distance was overcome on trains, airplanes, cars, even on three horses and deer) was more than 65 000 km. On November 7, the torch went to the station, where two astronauts took him to outer space.

During the entire passage of the Olympic Games in the winter seasons, the Olympic torch relay "Sochi 2014" has become the longest. Her path ran from Moscow to Sochi through various cultural and historical sites. About 130 million people in Russia could become spectators and participants of this event.

The starting point of the long journey is Moscow, then Krasnogorsk (Moscow suburbs). After a visit to these cities the group went to St. Petersburg and its suburbs. Then she followed Kaliningrad, Svetlogorsk, Murmansk, Arkhangelsk, Naryan-Mar. Participants visited Novy Urengoy, Khanty-Mansiysk, Nefteyugansk, Norilsk, Yakutsk, Mirny, Magadan. The Olympic flame burned even in the extreme north-east of Russia - in Anadyr. Then the group headed to Elizovo.

The torchbearers returned via Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, for some time they stayed in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, Vladivostok, Khabarovsk. Birobidzhan and Blagoveshchensk were not ignored. They visited Chita, paid a visit to Ulan-Ude, Irkutsk, Krasnoyarsk, Divnogorsk, Kyzyl and Abakan. Their next destinations were Tomsk, Barnaul, Novosibirsk, Barabinsk, Kuibyshev, Omsk, Ufa, Ekaterinburg, Kirov, Kursk, Rostov-on-Don, Makhachkala, Grozny. The finish point is Sochi.

How was the relay in Sochi?

The solemn meeting took place in the Lazarevsky district on the square opposite the Center of National Cultures named after K. Mazlumyan, then the torchbearers proceeded to the Park of Culture and Rest along Lazarev Street. Visiting the embankment in the dolphinarium, the column went to Adler district (the intersection of Lenin and Kirov streets). The route passed through the evening school №7 to the recreation park Adler. The next point is the railway station Krasnaya Polyana. After her visit, the Olympic torch relay continued in the center opposite the city administration. After some time the group traveled to the park for the shopping center TsUM and the Kuban ring. At the next stage the participants went to the South Mol Square through the streets of Novaya Zarya, the USSR Constitution, the Neber, Cooperative, Black Sea and Embankment. Then they returned to the square near the Administration of Sochi, then - to the Theater Street.

According to Dmitry Chernyshenko, the President of the Sochi 2014 Organizing Committee, the Olympic torch relay is a significant global event that unites the whole country and opens up the beauty and diversity of Russia.
