How is retinal detachment treated?

Even if you think that you have no problems with eyesight or with eyes as a whole, an ophthalmologist should visit regularly. For example, if you started the process of detaching the retina, you can even not even know about it. Problems will become visible only when discontinuities appear: they appear as sudden flashes, appearing floating spots or a sensation of shroud on the eyes. But they are so insignificant that many simply do not pay attention to such "trifles". Therefore, if something disturbs you, it is better to turn to the oculist as soon as possible.

In the early stages of treatment retinal detachment is carried out by the laser: with the help of it breaks appeared gaps. Even if you have once undergone such a procedure, there is no guarantee that you will not have to repeat it in a while. So, in the risk group (besides people with myopia) are those who suffer from diabetes mellitus, hypertension, kidney disease or feel the effects of various injuries.

To find out how serious your problems are, the ophthalmologist should check his vision, use special equipment to evaluate the periphery of the retina, to look at the fundus. Also, one of the mandatory procedures is the measurement of eye pressure. If even a slight detachment of the retina has been seen, laser treatment is mandatory. After all, this will help to avoid the appearance of more severe ruptures and, as a result, surgical intervention.

Currently, in many clinics can diagnose detachment of the retina. Treatment, the price of which will depend on the prestige of the institution, the installed equipment and the severity of the problem, is, however, not all carried out. After all, this is quite a serious operation, during which the doctor should correctly place the retina on the vascular membrane and, figuratively speaking, "glue" it into place. Depending on the degree of detachment and concomitant diseases of the eye, a method is selected, with the help of which the retinal detachment is treated.

This can be both laser coagulation, which is used only in the initial stages, and endovitral or extra-scleral operations. In the first case, the doctor removes the vitreous body and only then puts the retina in place. Instead, silicone oil is introduced , which can completely replace it. Treatment of retinal detachment by the second method implies its adherence without changing the natural anatomy of the eye. This can be done as follows: on the sclera with special seams a silicone band is attached, which weakens the tension of vitreous fibers. In this case, the retina approaches the choroid and tightly adjoins it.

If the problem occurs at the top of the eye, retinal detachment can be treated by pneumatic retinopexy. What it is? In the vitreous cavity a gas bubble is injected with a syringe, the purpose of which is to press the retina back so that it rests on the vascular surface. Usually does not take two weeks, as the injected gas dissolves. During this time, it is necessary to carry out the procedure for attaching the retina. This can be both her laser coagulation and cryopexy.

The most suitable method of therapy is determined exclusively by the doctor, because only a specialist can assess what will help the patient in a particular situation. In separate, especially complex cases, surgeons combine several methods to obtain the desired effect.
