Honey: shelf life of the product

Today we will not focus on useful, and sometimes simply invaluable qualities of honey. Its properties to treat people are worthy of a separate description. In the focus of our attention, the question of what shelf life is in honey.

Very often you can hear the opinion that the longer this product is stored, the weaker its useful properties for the human body. Nothing like this! The present (natural) honey with proper storage over the years only strengthens its positive properties to affect the health of people. Not so long ago, scientists and archaeologists at the excavation of the Egyptian pyramids accidentally discovered that the honey shelf life can have absolutely unlimited. Imagine a product that has remained sealed in the cool darkness, and has not lost its unique properties in millennia. Moreover, it was suitable for use!

Proceeding from this, we conclude that honey, as a good wine, the longer it takes, the more useful it becomes. However, you need to observe certain rules for storing the product. So, in order for the honey to have a shelf life, it is almost unlimited, it is necessary to provide it with certain conditions.

  1. Requires glass containers. If you bought natural honey in a plastic container, immediately transfer it into a container of glass. Make sure that honey, the expiration date of which you want to maximize, was closed with a sealed lid.
  2. Keep honey in a cool place (up to +15 degrees), but not in the refrigerator. There he can soon wander.
  3. Direct sunlight destroys the antimicrobial activity of honey and its vitamins.
  4. Isolate the product from foreign smells (smoked products, spices, pickles, etc.).

If you follow these simple rules, your honey is threatened with time except that it is eaten, but not spoiled. However, please note that only the expiration date of natural honey relates to all of the above. Therefore, if you buy a jar with this product in a supermarket, on which it is written that the period of its storage, for example, a year, you can not doubt its artificiality. Even if the manufacturer claims that it is natural.

To distinguish artificial honey from the present is difficult. Even more difficult is not to buy a natural product, diluted with sugar, starch, and in some cases chalk. If possible, purchase honey only from trusted manufacturers, because often it is possible to distinguish a real product from an artificial product only during its storage.

Remember, natural honey will eventually be sugared. Therefore, if you are trying to sell it in liquid form in January, assuring that it is real - do not believe it, it's a lie. Exception - honey from a chestnut or a white acacia. But it, first, is much less common than others, so it costs more, and secondly, it is still subject to crystallization, just a little slower. Unnatural honey, the shelf life of which, as a rule, does not exceed a year, can be used for food as sweetness or the basis of desserts. But to rely on the fact that it is something useful for the body is silly. It is created in the best case on the basis of sugar, whose use for the human body is very doubtful.
