Any car is equipped with a lubrication system. But it also requires cooling. For greater efficiency, the machines use an oil cooler. UAZ "Patriot" is also equipped with them. What is this element? Let's look at the device and the features of the oil cooler.

What is it for?

The work of the internal combustion engine is based on the conversion of energy - the explosion of the fuel-air mixture pushes the piston down. So there is a working stroke. However, not all energy is converted into mechanical energy. Some of the heat is transferred to the walls of the cylinders. Of course, we can mention the cooling system. Why is it so important to comply with the temperature regime?

When the oil overheats, its properties change. Increasing the temperature of the liquid entails the destruction of additives and the formation of deposits within the oil jacket. The consistency becomes more liquid. As a result, part of the oil leaves through the sealing elements - gaskets and seals. The fluid level in the engine gradually drops. The motorist asks the question: "Why did the motor begin to eat more oil?" The answer is quite simple - the liquid works in conditions of high temperatures. However, it is not necessary to exclude the wear of oil rings and crankshaft oil seals. Especially it concerns the rear seal. About construction

This device is a standard cooling radiator, which includes a tubular coil with additional fins. The element looks like the photo below. As you can see, the oil cooler (UAZ "Partiot" including) has a lot of ribs. Install the element in front of the main cooling radiator on special brackets. Also, the design of the device includes fittings, pipes and an oil cooler crane. UAZ is equipped with a fitting with a restrictive valve. One tube goes to supply oil, the second - to the tap. Is it advantageous to install an oil cooler on the UAZ ? The owners' feedback notes the following advantages:

How to replace?

Consider the process of installing an additional heat exchanger on the example of the SUV Patriot. First note that the oil from the system is not necessary to drain. The radiator is connected to the engine lubrication system through rubber hoses fixed with clamps. To remove the device, you need a key for 12 and a minus screwdriver. So, let's get to work. First, unscrew the grille and four bolts for securing the heat exchanger plate. Next, open the carabiner wrench with a side shield. We take both items out and put them in a dry place.

Next, unscrew the two bolts that attach the radiator oil. UAZ continues to stand still. Then take the heat exchanger out of the seat. To finally remove the radiator, proceed to disassemble the hoses. We need a minus screwdriver. Unscrew the clamps - first the upper, then the lower one. Next, remove the tubes from the system. We take out the heat exchanger assembly. The installation of the element is done in the reverse order. By the time the whole operation takes from 15 to 30 minutes.

Helpful advice

When dismantling the element, it is worth considering that the oil temperature in working condition is about 90 degrees. Therefore, the work is done strictly on a cooled engine. If time does not allow, we make the procedure in fabric gloves. Also pay attention to the moment when hoses are removed. Of these, oil can spill out. To prevent leakage, when dismantling, hold the hoses as far up as possible.

Is it possible to repair the radiator?

The installation of an oil heat exchanger allows repair work in the event of a breakdown. The holes can be sealed. However, experts note that it is not worth doing repairs on an oil cooler. The repair area may leak again. Therefore, if you start to lose the oil level and you found a crack or breakdown, this heat exchanger should be replaced entirely. Moreover, its price does not exceed two thousand rubles.
