Growth of the child by age. Growth tables

The increase in body length is considered one of the most important indicators of child development. The growth of a child by age varies according to established patterns that are inherent in certain time intervals. An important role in this process is heredity. In addition, scientists have proven that the growing organism is strongly influenced by external factors, for example, the quality of nutrition. To understand the correctness of growth indicators, you need to consider the established age norms, taking into account the child's genetic data and the conditions of his life. Conditionally, the child's development is divided into four main time periods: a baby from birth to a year, an early period from 12 to 36 months, preschool children from 3 to 7 years, and adolescents 7-17 years.

Thoracic

The most intensive changes in babies occur from the first day to the year. In this time interval the growth of the child by age is classified according to the monthly indicators. Every month, a mother visits a pediatrician to monitor a growing body of crumbs. The specialist evaluates the measurement results in accordance with the tables developed by WHO, taking into account the heredity of the baby.

Until 2006, old growth tables were used, the data in which were somewhat overstated, since they were targeted at babies receiving artificial feeding. Today, WHO takes into account the infants, and looks at the indicators of their development differently. Since 2006, the organization has submitted new data that determine the growth of children by age. The table below will help you figure out how the baby is growing.

The growth rates in the interval starting from "Below average" to "Above average" correspond to normal growth. Figures in the sections "Low" and "High" can testify both about the genetic characteristics of the child and about the violations of the hormonal background. This should pay attention and consult a pediatrician. Growth, which is less than the "Low" and more "High" interval, most often indicates certain diseases associated with disrupting the process of physical development. Such babies require an assessment of their condition by specialists, since these pathologies need to be adjusted.

Early period

After a year, the carapace continues to grow, but not as intensively as in the previous period. From one year to three years of age, the baby can be put to a growth meter once every 6 months. For this period, WHO also established indicators that help to measure the growth of children by age. The table below contains average norms.

Preschool age

To preschoolers it is customary to refer children from the age of three to seven. They grow and improve in development. After three years, the growth of the child by age is characterized by unevenness. Between 4 and 5 year olds grow up about four to six centimeters. But in the sixth and seventh year, the growth rate increases, and the annual increase in the average ranges from 8 to 10 cm. Six-year-olds and seven-year-olds have a stretch stage. At this age, both lower and upper extremities extend in children.

Teens

If the length of the body of the toddlers approximates the tabulated data, then during the adolescence the growth of the child by age is difficult to subordinate to certain intervals. Children at this stage grow up in leaps and bounds. And each of them can jump for a different period. One child can already reach his final growth at age 13, while the other only at this time begins to stretch. In this case, a certain teenager can grow in one summer, while his friend adds gradually to growth. Most intensively, children are stretched out with the onset of puberty. Girls start growing earlier and faster - at 10-12 years, and boys - at 13-16 years.

What determines the process of growth?

For each parent, it is important to correctly match the growth and age of the child. Therefore, you need to know that the process of growing up affects different factors. The main role belongs to heredity. Of great importance is proper nutrition. A balanced diet is a prerequisite for the proper formation of children. Providing your child with the necessary amount of fat, protein and carbohydrate components, as well as mineral salts and vitamin elements, parents create conditions for the proper development, growth and formation of his body in all time intervals. These include the infants, the early period, pre-school and adolescence.

Weight, height of the child depends on many other factors: physical exercises, the quality of care for him, the regime of the day, the psychological atmosphere in the family.

A child who has enough rest, develops correctly, but lack of sleep and chronic fatigue can adversely affect physical performance. In addition, there is the opinion of scientists that children are more intensively added to growth in their sleep.

Basketball, jumping, volleyball and other sports activities have a stimulating effect on the young body. But constant stress and mental stress negatively affect not only growth, but also health in general.
