Graphics as a kind of art originated even in the time of rock art, although the word itself has Greek roots and means "write", "cherch." Nowadays it is an independent and multifaceted kind, having its own genres and canons.

Types of Graphic Art

According to their purpose, graphic works are divided into the following types:

  • Easel graphics. As a form of art is close to painting, as it conveys the vision and emotional world of the artist. And the master achieves this not at the expense of the variety of colors and different techniques of applying them to the canvas, but with the help of lines, strokes, spots and the tone of the paper.

Tools for creating a graphic drawing

Graphite pencil is the most popular tool. This is a wooden or metal case in which either a graphite grayish-black rod or a colored rod is inserted into which dyes are added.

Printed graphics

This category of fine art includes:

  • Engraving on metal, for which plates of brass, copper or lead were used, was divided into recessed, relief and incisive plates. Depending on the method, the pattern was applied to the metal, covered with paint and then transferred to paper.

  • Linocut appeared in the 20th century, along with materials such as linoleum, plexiglass and plastic. It differs in the simplicity and speed of creating art templates. This technique is characterized by pronounced black-and-white contrasts and any size. Many eminent masters worked in this kind of graphics. For example, Picasso, Matisse, Ivan Pavlov.

This is by no means all the kinds used in the printing business.

Book Graphics

This type of visual arts include the following:

  • Book miniature. An ancient way to design manuscripts, which was used even in ancient Egypt. In the Middle Ages, the main theme of the miniature was religious motives, and only from the 15th century began to appear secular subjects. The main materials used by the miniature masters are gouache and watercolor.
  • The design of the cover is the transmission of the emotional message of the book, its main theme. Here, the font, the size of the letters, and the picture corresponding to its name should be harmonious. The cover represents the reader not only the author of the work, his work, but also the publishing house and the designer himself.
  • Illustrations are used as a supplement to the book, helping to create visual images from the reader for a more accurate perception of the text. This graphic as an art form was born at the time of printing, when manual miniatures were replaced with engravings. With illustrations a person encounters in the earliest childhood, when he does not know how to read, but he knows fairy tales and their heroes through pictures.

Book graphics as a kind of fine art in the DOW are known through illustrated books, carrying information in pictures for the youngest children, and through text with explanatory images for the elderly.

Poster as an art form

Another representative of graphic art is a poster. Its main function is the transmission of information using a short phrase with an amplifying image. In the field of application, posters can be:

  • Political, whose purpose is a call to action. The subject of political agitation is diverse - from protection (peace, animals, democracy, ecology) to exposure.
  • Social posters urge a person to change something or join those who do it.
  • Advertising poster graphics carry information about the product, events and their participants. As an example, these are cinema and theater posters, advertising stands. Their main task is to attract the viewer's interest and desire to acquire what they are informing about. They are distinguished by bright colors and sonorous slogans, which are easy to remember.

  • Educational posters carry training information that should help to consolidate knowledge among students. This category also includes pictures with rules on safety, prevention and treatment of diseases and many other types of warnings.

A poster is one of the most common types of graphics.

Applied graphics

Another kind of graphic art is the design of labels, envelopes, stamps and covers for video and music discs.

  • The label is a type of industrial graphics, the main purpose of which is to give the maximum amount of information about a product with a minimum image size. When creating a label, the color gamut is taken into account, which should arouse sympathy and trust in the product.
  • CD covers carry maximum information about the movie or music group, passing it through the drawing.
  • Graphic design of stamps and envelopes has a long history. Plots for them often become events that occur in different countries, the surrounding world and big holidays. Stamps may be issued as separate copies, as well as whole series, united by a single theme.

Mark, perhaps, the most common type of graphic art, which has become the subject of collecting.

Modern graphics

With the advent of computer technology, a new type of graphic art began to develop - computer graphics. It is used to create and correct graphic images on a computer. Along with its emergence, new professions have appeared, for example, a computer graphics designer.
