Genetics Can not Cope With Cancer

Some cells almost do not reproduce but others on the contrary, with frenzied speed. Some cells do not even stop chemotherapy, while others, on the contrary, die instantly. But whatever one may say, all these cells consist of the same genome, which scientists still have to learn to manage in order to cure such a disease as cancer.

Such a conclusion could be seen in the popular journal Science, which the authors of the study explain that at this stage in the development of medicine, scientists can not yet offer the world a cure for cancer and suggest that drugs obtained with the help of genetics can not overcome this ailment.

Whatever one may say, it is the genome of a cancerous tumor that can clarify the way to solve the current situation. But the new study believes that the way to solve this problem does not lie in the plane of the DNA of the disease. Modern methods of treatment are aimed at identifying cells that, as a result of the mutation, begin to divide uncontrollably. It turns out that you only need to find those molecules that will be responsible for the mutation and then the pharmacists will find a medicine that will cope with these sources of the disease.

This is based on drugs such as Pfizer Xalkori (lung cancer) and Gleevec Novartis (chronic myeloid leukemia). But the moment may come (and it usually comes) when these medicines cease to function, then it is generally accepted in such cases that the cancer cells have succumbed to a new mutation against which these drugs are simply powerless.

In this study, the scientists were surprised that the cancer cells behaved quite differently in the colon, although they were identical in origin in the mutations, it was as if the difference did not make any difference. This contradicted the existing legitimate opinion that genes are responsible for the activity of individual cells in the tumor, and for the very activity of reproduction and for their reaction to chemotherapy.

According to the geneticist John Dick, the author of this study, if DNA is not the only source of tumor development, one can only assume that if it is necessary to cure cancer, then drugs that must be based on non-genetic traits are needed.

Without going into the details of the study, I want to note that the scientists were really surprised by the behavior of cancerous tumors in the large intestine. Since the response to existing drugs from cancer cells behaved simply unpredictably.

Other scientists and experts highly appreciated the research conducted and support the view that individual cancer therapy is a big blunder, special if one considers in what form it is presented to society.

Others believe that such a result could be expected, since the development of cancer cells depends on a multitude of external indicators, among them, for example, the environment and they will be one of the decisive factors that will finally show how effective the therapy was during the treatment of cancer.

Researchers believe that the reason lies in: in the phase in which the cell is (peace, division, growth); In genes that are involved at one time or another; Whether there is access to oxygen of this or that cell and in other non-genetic factors.

For example, treatment can be used to transfer cells from the dormant phase to the breeding phase when they become more vulnerable to chemotherapy, which in principle is directed against rapidly proliferating cells.

Scientists believe that cancer should be treated therapeutically at the molecular level.
