GAZ-310231-110: specifications and photos

"Volga" is a legendary car of the Soviet car industry. These machines were used in the KGB, police and other structures. Also on its base were built ambulances. One of these is GAZ-310231-110. Photo and review of this car - later in this article.

Characteristic

The car was built on the basis of GAZ-31029. Serial production of the model began in 1992. What is remarkable, the project was ready for the start in the 84th. However, in view of the unfavorable economic situation, it was postponed "until better times". GAZ-310231-110 "Volga" station wagon was calculated for the transportation of a team of physicians and one patient on stretchers.

Design

The car came to replace the legendary "twenty-four". And if the latter was a symbol of luxury and presentability in the USSR, the new "Volga" was significantly cheaper. First of all, it touched the design. The machine has a disproportionate body shape, a strange combination of a rounded front end with a square "rear". The bumper is now made of plastic. On the sanitary models there are flashing lights and searchlights. In the body of the replacement, the number of chrome elements decreased. The radiator grill was also recycled. Despite all the efforts, the design of GAZ-310231-110 can not be called improved. And the Gorky Automobile Plant itself did not conceal that it intentionally reduced the cost of the construction. The painting technology was also reduced in price. Because of this, the machines rotted badly. Find a live copy of our time is not possible. Either it will be a "time capsule", 30 years standing in the garage, or a restored exhibit. Through holes appeared after 3-4 years of normal operation.

What is noteworthy, the back of the GAZ-310231-110 was practically the same as the "twenty-four". Here, the same shapes of lanterns, trunk lid and even the cut-out under the number were used. Thus, only the front part of the car was updated at GAZ. But many note that these "updates" did not go "Volga" to face.

Dimensions, clearance

The dimensions of the machine remained practically unchanged. "Volga" is still the same "barge". So, the length of the sanitary vehicle GAZ-310231-110 is 4.88 meters, width - 1.8 meters, height - 1.48 meters. The ride height is 16 centimeters. Despite the long wheelbase, the car coped well with roughness and impassability. She could come to the challenge in any road conditions.

GAZ-310231-110: specifications

Essential upgrades the machine has not found. So, the sanitary GAZ-310231-110 was equipped with an eight-valve gasoline engine from ZMZ. The same engine was also put on GAZel. With its working volume of 2.3 liters, it developed 100 horsepower power. The unit had a carbureted power system and developed 182 Nm of torque.

Owners of the Volga often scolded this motor. ZMZ-402 often boiled in the heat. The liquid-type cooling system did not cope with the loads (although this motor can hardly be called high-speed). There were also interruptions with ignition. To 50 thousand kilometers, on the valve cover oil flows appeared. Problems caused and the intake, in particular, the carburettor. He demanded constant tuning and cleaning of the jets.

Many note the high consumption of the power unit. According to the passport data, the car consumed about 13 liters of fuel in a mixed cycle. However, in practice, this indicator could reach up to 18 (especially in winter). At the same time, the car had weak dynamic characteristics. Acceleration to hundreds took 19 seconds. The maximum speed is 150 kilometers per hour. But even with such characteristics of dynamics the car was officially registered in city hospitals. In some villages it is still used.

By the 2000s, this model was no longer produced. But the basic sedans remained. They began to install modernized engines ZMZ-406 with a 16-valve timing mechanism. Carburetor injection remained, but the power increased to 145 horsepower. The torque at 4 thousand turns was 200 Nm. But here, too, there were shortcomings. So, the owners note the problems with the new 16-valve timing. Due to the unstable quality of casting and poor post-processing, the tensioners of the chain drive often failed. The design of the piston rings remained the same. And the block has not been finalized. This caused a high fuel consumption and high mechanical losses.

Transmission

GAZ-310231-110 earlier versions were equipped with a manual gearbox for four stages. A little later, a more convenient "five-step" appeared. With it, it was possible to reduce the consumption. But still the figure was sky-high.

Chassis

Like the "twenty-four", the sanitary "Volga" of the new series had a rear-wheel drive and an axle suspension. Behind was a continuous bridge on the springs, in front - a beam. In view of such a simple, but non-technological design, the machine was felling in corners. The body tipped from the minimum rotation of the steering wheel. The brake system did not change either. Front and rear were drum brakes. A bit later, the Gorky Automobile Plant began to equip the Volga with unventilated disc brakes in the front. However, the sanitary version did not live up to these times. The steering at the "Volga" - without the hydraulic booster, with the mechanism "screw - ball nut". The system is sufficiently reliable, but periodically requires lubrication of the crosspiece.

Cost

As for sanitary models, most of them were written off as scrap. In the secondary market they can not be found. But ordinary wagons are still available. You can buy them at a price of 30-40 thousand rubles. We note at once that almost every specimen will have corrosion problems. Some buy such cars for their own project - for example, make a limousine or convertible. Sometimes in the "Volga" install the engine from the 53rd GAZ, or the Japanese "Jay-Zet" for 200 horsepower. But buying a car for such tuning, you need to consider that such investments are unlikely to pay off.

Conclusion

So, we found out what the given car has technical characteristics and design. Finally, we note that the project with a sanitary Volga was also designed for export. In particular, some specimens can be found in Bulgaria. But by our time only a few have survived. It is possible to see the sanitary "Volga" only in the picture or as a museum exhibit.
