Fungus in the mouth: the causes of appearance and treatment

Most people in the mouth have Candida fungi that do not manifest themselves until a certain time. But, if the protective properties of the body for any reason begin to decline, this leads to their development. Fungi affect not only the internal cavity of the mouth, but also the corners of the lips. Self-medication in this case should not be dealt with, as this can lead to serious complications.

Causes

The fungus of the mouth (thrush or candidiasis) appears when favorable conditions for them occur. These include:

  • Decreased immunity;
  • Violation of the hormonal background;
  • General deterioration of the body;
  • Violation of the balance of microflora;
  • Radiation therapy used for cancer;
  • Incorrect bite or damage to the teeth, causing injury to the oral mucosa;
  • Wearing dentures;
  • Violation of hygiene rules.

Very often fungus in the mouth affects small children up to a year or older people. Women are much more susceptible to the onset of this disease. You can get infected with candidiasis by means of a contact-home method or by using common objects: dishes, a toothbrush, towels, etc. Newborn babies get infected from mothers, and smokers get this infection when smoking one cigarette.

Main symptoms

Once the fungus enters the cells of healthy tissues, they begin their active multiplication, while secreting enzymes and forming loosely bound cellular compounds - pseudomycelia. This leads to irritation of the mucous membrane and destruction of adjacent tissues.

Thus, if a fungus appears in the mouth, its symptoms can manifest as follows:

  • Dryness of the oral cavity;
  • Hypersensitivity;
  • redness;
  • edema.

As the fungi begin to multiply, white rashes appear in the oral cavity. At first they resemble cheesy pellets, after which a film of milky film appears. It covers individual areas, which, as they increase, begin to merge. Such areas, covered with white coating, are called plaques. They can arise on the cheeks, gums, tonsils, the sky. If this infection affects the lips, then their surface is covered with scales and flakes of white color.

At the very beginning of the development of the disease, the plaque is removed quite easily. The surface freed from it begins to blush and becomes covered with small sores. This is due to the fact that the fungi secrete special enzymes that destroy the cells of nearby tissues. After a while, the tissues start to get deeper.

At this stage, the fungus in the mouth is characterized by the following symptoms:

  • Itching and burning;
  • Irritating effect of spicy, spicy, hot food;
  • temperature increase;
  • Difficulty in swallowing;
  • Occurrence of mycotic jaed;
  • Difficult passage of food.

Diagnostics

If a fungus appears in the mouth in adults, it is necessary to seek qualified help from a dentist or periodontist. If the fungal infection has spread beyond the mucous membrane of the oral cavity, then an infectious disease specialist or mycologist is needed.

First, the doctor examines the oral cavity of the patient and asks him about the features of the course of the disease. To clarify the clinical picture of candidiasis, the following types of tests:

  • Scraping from the affected parts of the oral cavity;
  • general blood analysis;
  • Determining the level of sugar in the blood.

If there is such a need, the doctor can prescribe additional tests to clarify the individual characteristics of the organism and the nature of the course of the disease. For each patient, a different treatment regimen is prepared.

Treatment

If there was a fungus in the mouth, the treatment is carried out using generic and topical drugs, which should be prescribed only by a doctor.

General treatment involves the use of oral medications that restore the normal microflora of the body and eliminate the excessive activity of fungi. To do this, use antibiotics, as well as antimicrobial and antiparasitic drugs.

Local treatment is that they use preparations for rinses, oral cavity treatment, applications, etc. These can be disinfectant and alkaline solutions and agents that help to restore damaged mucosa and have a bactericidal effect on the internal surface of the oral cavity.

Diet

To successfully cure the fungus in the mouth, you must follow a diet and the correct diet. In the diet should not be sharp, salty, hard, acidic and spicy foods and dishes that cause irritation of the oral mucosa. Should be discarded and from the sweet food, which can activate the growth of fungi.

Eat small portions several times a day. Products must be warm, soft, contain a large number of vitamins. A specific menu should be made by the attending physician.

Prevention

To prevent the fungus in the mouth from manifesting itself in all its glory, preventive measures should be taken, including:

  • Careful hygiene;
  • Proper nutrition;
  • Care for the gums and teeth;
  • rejection of bad habits;
  • Strengthening of immunity;
  • Timely treatment of chronic diseases;
  • Systematic visit to the dentist.

In addition, you should use only your personal hygiene items, wash dishes thoroughly, disinfect towels from time to time, try not to contact sick people.

Fungus in the mouth of a child

Thrush in newborn babies may appear in the hospital if they are touched by medical personnel who are carriers of candidiasis. On the skin of infants fungi remain active for 2 hours. Also, parents can infect the baby through kisses.

After a year, infection occurs when the child begins to pull toys into the mouth, especially strangers. The emergence of preschool age candidiasis occurs because of weak immunity or prolonged intake of antibiotics.

This disease is treated with antifungal drugs, as well as traditional medicine.
