Appearance

In 1930-40's in the city of Cologne there were several teams performing in the regional championships. They were about equal in strength, but in the big leagues could not play. Once, one club from Cologne still had the honor of breaking into the elite division, where he faced serious competition. Therefore, soon therefrom was knocked out.

Football fans in Cologne dreamed of having a strong team, able to fight with the famous clubs in Germany. February 13, 1948, the authorities decide to create a new team "Cologne". The Football Club received the best local players and support of the city's leadership.

First successes

In 1967 the director of the team died. A year later in honor of his memory, "Cologne" won the first ever Cup of the country.

In the 70's the team took the leadership position, in its place came "Bavaria" and Menchengladbach "Borussia". However, "Cologne" did not drop out of the rating, keeping close to the leaders. The return of the victorious spirit took place in 1977, when the team managed to take the German Cup.

A year later, the club does a gold double, winning the title of the country champions and the Cup. By the way, in 1978 they managed to become the third and last time the best in Germany. In the same season, the team managed to break into the semi-finals of the Champions Cup.

Next year, a failure occurs, and the club takes only 6th place. The result was associated with a huge number of injuries. In 1980, "Cologne" in the Cup final of the country lose "Fortune". A year later, the club does go down to number 8, but gets to the semifinals in the UEFA Cup. In 1983, the coach of the team helps to win the long-awaited German Cup. Two years later, the Germans reached the final of the UEFA Cup, but could not beat Real Madrid.

In the 92nd the team takes part in the European Cup tournament for the last time. Then the recession begins, the cause of which was poor financing. In the 1997/98 season the club is sent to the second division of the country. However, after a year he will be able to return.

Today

In the early 2000's the team began to jump between the leagues, but to gain a foothold in the prestigious it did not work.
