Flowers mirabilis

Mirabilis Yalapa or mirabilis ordinary is a herbaceous perennial plant, which gardeners are also called the Night Beauty. Mirabilis is referred to as non-wintering perennials, that is, its tubers, like dahlias, must be stored carefully during the winter. Nevertheless, this thermophilic plant is planted with seeds, like the annuals. Mirabilis has large seeds in a hard peel, which are stored for a long time and quickly rise. Perhaps, that is why gardeners do not see the point of breeding perennials with tubers. Flowers mirabilis is great for our climate: the plant blooms early and continues to bloom abundantly to near-frost.

The name "Night Beauty" plant is obliged to uniquely reveal its small, about 3 cm in diameter, flowers in the afternoon, at sunset or with the approach of twilight. Flowers mirabilis have a pleasant scent and can create a unique atmosphere in the evening garden. The plant is recommended by specialists for a single planting, it should also be noted that it will take quite a bit of space. The bush of the mirabilis at the peak of its development can grow to 2 square meters.

The night beauty has one very interesting property, characteristic for a narrow range of plant species. Mirabilis in translation from Latin - "amazing" - is not accidental. Very often flowers of different colors appear on the plant: from pink, with shades from orange to crimson, to white and yellow. The petals can have multi-colored stripes or strokes, convex dots or other segments. This is explained by the phenomenon of the dusting of neighboring bushes with flowers of different colors. Seeds of such plants will bloom in mixed tones.

For early flowering, experts recommend the cultivation of mirabilis in seedlings. Before planting large plant seeds require soaking for 2-3 days. As soon as the seeds swell, it is necessary to sow them in seedlings 3-4 cm deep. Traditionally, the seeds are planted in the middle-end of March. At room temperature around 20 ° C, the sprouts should appear already on day 10. With the appearance of the third leaf of the plant, experts recommend pinching seedlings. This measure will lead to the fact that the flowers of the mirabilis will bloom much more abundantly.

This plant is most comfortable in loamy and clayey soils with an admixture of lime. Sour and moist soil adversely affects the condition of the flower. Mirabilis loves warmth and light, while it is rather drought-resistant. However, with prolonged drought, the process of vital activity of the plant organism is significantly suspended, and the plant ceases to bloom. It is important not to miss the moment of ripening of seeds, which fall off when they reach maturity. Under favorable conditions, the seeds will germinate very quickly. So, if you want to sow the flowers of the mirabilis and the next year, you need to collect the fugitives on time. However, if you missed this moment, nothing terrible happened. Throughout the summer there is a continuous formation of seeds, the multiplicity of which will provide a mirabilus for everyone.

The plant forms a thick root-like carrot root. If you still did not manage to gather the seeds from the necessary bush, in the autumn, after trimming the mirabilis, it is possible to dig out the root and save it by analogy with the dahlia tuber. The approximate period of landing of the mirabilis in the open ground is mid-May.

Proteus mirabilis is an optional anaerobic bacterium, which is often mistaken for the appearance of Mirabilis Yalapa. Be careful! The night beauty is worthy of a place on your garden plot.
