Facial expression. Mimicry and gestures in communication. The language of facial expression
A person is such an interesting creature that all manifestations of his essence, personality and feelings are perceived with interest. Facial expressions, for example, can tell about people a lot of interesting details, even if they themselves are silent. Gestures are also able to give someone else's state. Watching people, you can learn many interesting details that will help you understand the truth or lies, emotions, moods and other features of others. The psychology of mimicry is really extensive. To study it fully, one article and even a book will not suffice. Nevertheless, some rules and tips will help you learn at least elementary psychological "tricks" for using them in the future.
General information and definitions
Physiognomy is the art of reading a person by its external features, in particular by the person, his expression, features and facial expressions. Identify both the internal qualities and some psychological data, and the state of health. This method can not be called completely scientific, but many are interested in it very seriously because of its certain validity.
Mimicry is a facial expression in which a person gives out their inner sensations, experiences, feelings, moods, emotions and other spiritual qualities.
Gestures are gestures, most often hand / hands, accompanying or replacing the words of the individual who commits them.
Pose is the position of the body. A person sits, stands or lies as you like / comfortably / comfortably to him.
Face and facial expressions
Despite the fact that the facial expressions and gestures of a person are closely interrelated, they will be considered separately. So, let's go.
Reactions
The facial expression of a person manifests itself in different ways, and more often it can be seen in human emotions. The latter, in turn, are shown in reactions. Depending on their manifestation, you can find out what the person is experiencing from the information received. The difficulty lies in the fact that some are afraid, others do not want, and others are embarrassed to show their own emotions. Because of this, you will have to catch a quick, involuntary reaction, which appears the very first. Often it is almost impossible to fully control it, especially to an unprepared person. Therefore, to determine the true feelings of the interlocutor, which in seconds, most likely, will take away from his person, it is possible, if you act quickly and very carefully.
Emotions
So, let's continue. As mentioned above, facial expressions in communication are manifested through the expression of emotions emanating from the reaction. Below are the brightest and most significant of them, as well as ways of expressing them:
- Joy, happiness . The brows and lips are relaxed, the corners of the latter are raised from both sides, the cheeks are also raised, and in the corners of the eyes there are small wrinkles.
- Anger, irritation . The eyebrows are tense, they are brought together and lowered, the mouth is tightly closed. Often the teeth are brought together, like the lips, the corners of which, with anger or strong discontent, look down.
- Contempt . Smirk. The corner of the mouth on one side is raised and a slight squint is visible in the eyes.
- Surprise. Lips and face are generally relaxed, eyes are more round than usual, eyebrows shot up, and mouth is slightly open.
- Fear. Eyebrows and upper eyelids are raised, and the lower ones are tense, like the whole face, eyes are wide open.
- Sadness, grief. Slightly lowered upper eyelids and raised eyebrows, relaxed lips with corners looking down, and also an empty, extinct look.
- Disgust . The upper lip is taut and raised, the eyebrows are brought together, forming a small crease, and are slightly lowered, the cheeks also rise slightly, and the nose is slightly wrinkled.
Among other things, to understand the emotions will help pictures. Mimicry on them is represented not bad, that visually shows internal feelings and experiences of the represented people. Smiles, by the way, are also not in vain invented. Often facial expressions are not bad for them, so they are in demand when trying to transmit emotions through the Internet. After all, communication here mostly takes the form of letters that do not always convey the feelings experienced at one time or another.
Human condition
Sometimes it's enough to watch people enough to see what they are. Facial expressions affect a person, and not only "one-time", but for life. The brighter your interlocutor manifested himself, the more you can find out about him.
- A large forehead is often smart people. This does not mean that their knowledge is great in everything. Sometimes it happens that a person knows a lot of information in one area, but is completely ignorant in another. If your friend has a big forehead, but no signs of special intelligence are evident, perhaps he just did not find his cause.
- Brilliant eyes and animated look mean someone's passion for something / something. Usually it happens to curious kids, who are interested in everything in the world. On the contrary, if a person's look is extinct and indifferent, it means that his state is depressed, possibly close to depression.
- If laughter in the corners of the eyes appears a lot of wrinkles, it means that the person is kind, cheerful and cheerful.
- Bitten lips mean that a person likes to think and is often nervous when making a decision. Sometimes people start automatically so to act right at the interlocutor, because they can not solve something.
- A firm, developed chin (often square) shows the strong will of a person. Since people, when they achieve their goals (even in a dispute), strain the lower part of the face, it begins to develop. With frequent victories, the chin becomes strong and firm, which proves the ability of a person to achieve the intended goals. Proceeding from this, if the lower part of the face of the interlocutor is soft, weak and undeveloped, it can be assumed that it is easily broken. He will not go to the end, if there is a serious obstacle ahead.
- The more on the face of various bulges, unevennesses, "depressions", "protuberances", etc. (hollow cheeks, convex cheekbones, for example), the more emotional and quick-tempered person. He is easily able to fall into a state of affect and brightly and vividly throw out his experiences on others.
Gesture
And facial expressions and gestures in communication make it clear what and how a person says:
- Open hands mean trust and openness. If a person periodically reveals the inside of the brush to you, then he has nothing to hide from you, and he feels well in your society. If the interlocutor always hides his hands in his pocket, leads them behind his back or commits other such "secretive" movements, he probably is not very comfortable with him. This can be both hostility to you, and guilt / shame for past deeds.
- The hands located at the cheek, mean pensiveness. Usually at such moments a person is intensely thinking about something, trying to figure out how to act in this situation, etc.
- In case of nervousness or, more likely, insecurity, a person starts touching either the neck or objects located on it, such as a pendant, chain, etc. In addition, he can begin to gnaw the handle.
- The nod of the head marks agreement. Sometimes people uncontrollably nod, thus informing on a subconscious level that someone else's opinion is on their liking. Head shaking, on the contrary, means that a person does not agree with you. Like nod, sometimes it happens automatically.
Postures
Open facial expressions and gestures in communication - this, of course, is good, but we must not forget about the posture of the person who takes it during a conversation:
- If a person sits relaxed, stretching his legs forward, in your direction, this means that he is well-disposed. The same value has an approach to the interlocutor together with a chair: predisposition to you personally and conversation as a whole.
- Sometimes a person unzips buttons, or even completely removes clothes, such as a jacket. This proves his trust and open attitude towards you.
- If your interlocutor draws something unpretentious on a piece of paper, he often looks at one point, pulls the pen, shakes his foot, taps his fingers, does not express special emotions, etc., so he is not very interested with you, because this Signs of boredom. Change the subject of the conversation or try to bring liveliness into the dialogue.
- Crossed legs or arms (on the chest, for example) mean closedness, isolation, unwillingness to communicate and open. Perhaps a person just feels uncomfortable, and soon this state will pass, and perhaps it is unpleasant for him to be in your society.
How to recognize the truth and lies about a person
That's why many are interested in the details of our article - everyone wants to know how to read the facial expressions of a person's face, how to see when you are blatantly lying, and when they say the pure truth. Some ways to expose the liar are given below, but remember that, probably, a liar about such tricks has long and perfectly knows, and therefore uses them skilfully and deftly, deceiving others so that the mosquito does not undermine the nose.
- When a person speaks untruth, his pupils involuntarily narrow. If you previously had time to notice the initial state of the eye of the interlocutor, then you will understand that he is cunning, after reducing the pupils.
- When a person lies, he looks away. This is due to the fact that subconsciously he is ashamed of the untruthful information that he says.
- When a person lies and knows about the previous method, he gazes into the eyes. Most often, he so "flirts" that even almost does not blink. This is also capable of giving a liar.
- The look of a lying person moves from one subject to another, not lingering on one thing. Sometimes it's just a sign of nerves, but most often lies.
- Thanks to the contraction of the zygomatic muscles, a man's face reveals a kind of half-smile-half-grin on his face.
- The direction of the view will also tell you whether you are hearing the truth or lying from the other person. If a person looks to the right, most likely, you are presented with a lie, if the left is true. However, this rule is valid provided that the speaking right-hander, otherwise read the opposite.
