Euplefar spotted: content, photo

This is an unusual domestic pet, which is a favorite of many terramnists. Spotted (leopard) euplefar - one of the representatives of a large family of geckos.

Experts in a narrow circle call it "leopard" for a spotted color. It's funny, but this lizard even drinks water, like a cat - licking his tongue. Euplefar spotted is popular not only because of its unusual appearance, but also unpretentiousness - even a child can take care of a gecko.

There are two subspecies of the euplicar - Afghan and typical.

Spread

This cute gecko (spotted euplefar) comes from India, Pakistan, Afghanistan. He lives on the slopes of low mountains, in dry steppes.

Life expectancy of such a lizard in natural conditions is no more than 10 years, and in captivity it can live up to 30 years.

Lifestyle

Spotted euplefar, a photo of which you can see in our article, prefers to lead a twilight or nocturnal lifestyle. In the daytime he finds shelter in the rocks.

His diet consists of arthropods, their larvae, various insects, newborn mice, smaller lizards. Often happens that geckos are eaten by their own young. Spotted euplefar is social, settles in groups. They consist of several females and one male. Males guard their territory and drive its relatives out of it.

External Features

Interestingly, spotted euplefar, contained in captivity, may outwardly differ from its fellow living in natural conditions. Experts argue that this is a consequence of the selection of the gecko.

The main difference between Euphfar and other lizards is the spotted color. The size of these animals is not large. Their body length does not exceed 20 cm. Rarely, but larger specimens (up to 30 cm) are also found.

Euphlyphar Spotted has a thick massive tail, in which it naturally stores moisture and nutrients. The lizard can easily drop it, then it grows again, but narrower and shorter.

The head of this gecko is large, having a triangular shape. The body is covered with small scales, among which there are pimples. Paws thin, having five fingers. The eyes are convex, elongated, slightly resembling a cat's in shape.

Color

In natural conditions, the torso of this lizard is colored yellowish gray with dark spots. On the tail there is a picture. Usually these are transverse rings.

When keeping in captivity, the color is different. This is due to selection work. Today, more than a hundred varieties of color are registered.

Euplefar spotted: content, food

This gecko is quite unpretentious. Therefore, its content is not difficult. In nutrition, these innocuous and even lovely-looking lizards can show the real instinct of a predator, because in nature they hunt for insects. They can give crickets, cockroaches, grasshoppers, mice, so that the euphemar will satisfy his hunter's instinct.

Gecko feeding occurs once a day. After three months, you can go to once every two days. Within a few days, a gecko can refuse food, but this should not bother the owner, since he has a supply of nutrients in his tail. Sometimes it is necessary to add calcium powder to the food.

Spotted euplicator requires a small terrarium, for one or two animals a dwelling of 50 × 40 × 30 cm size is suitable. For sand, sand should not be used, as the lizard can swallow it with food. It is preferable to use small pebbles, pebbles.

Euplefar spotted needs to be heated. For him, the optimal temperature during the day is 31 ° C, at night - 27 ° C. The most important thing is not to let the temperature drop abruptly. In this case, your pet may lose its appetite. It is desirable to constantly maintain the humidity of air 40-45%. To do this, from time to time it is necessary to spray the terrarium.

Because the Eubbéphyrs are animals twilight, they do not need illumination. You can install a mirror lamp with a power of no more than 25-40 W, which will simulate solar heating, but only at one point of the terrarium. Solar radiation to animals is necessary for the synthesis of vitamin D3. You can buy a special lamp for reptiles, radiating ultraviolet.

However, there is an opinion of experts that by providing the lizard with a lower heating and adding vitamins and minerals to its diet, it is possible to do without UV. Today, there are many vitamin complexes with vitamin D3, designed for euplicators.

The use of ultraviolet is indicated for medicinal purposes. For example, with developing rickets in a reptile, when vitamin D3 is poorly digested, and to stimulate reproduction. In the case of rickets of euplicar it is enough to irradiate 10 minutes a day, and to stimulate reproduction, it is necessary to regulate the light day, changing it to a larger side. The longer the day, the more active lizards mate, so in this case, the length of the light day can be increased to 12 hours.

Hibernation

Today, the spotted euphaphar is so domesticated that it does not have an urgent need for wintering, for the same reason it does not fall into hibernation. Wintering is needed to stimulate reproduction (male activity). Therefore, if you do not cultivate these lizards, then do not seek to ensure that they are definitely hibernated.

It must be remembered that only a healthy, fattened animal tolerates wintering without problems. At home, it is enough to reduce the temperature very smoothly, shortening the heating time. It is necessary to reduce the length of the light day to 8 hours. These changes in the life of the gecko should last at least two months. At the peak of wintering, the average temperature should be +18 ... +22 ° С.

Accordingly, the diet of the gecko should gradually decrease. The rest period is about two months. Then, a gradual exit from this state is carried out in the reverse order. Do not forget about vitamins and minerals.

In natural conditions, the moth season begins in the middle of winter, which is falling by the end of May. At home, you can maintain the same mode, but it is not necessary.

Reproduction

The sexual maturity of the spotted euplicar reaches to 12 months. They begin to multiply immediately after hibernation. And the eggs are laid 3 weeks after mating. As a rule, 1-2 eggs are in one clutch. In a year there can be up to 10 clutches.

The incubation period depends on the air temperature in the terrarium. Cubs appear after 40-65 days, provided that the temperature is regulated. From it, in many ways, depends on the sex of the cubs. At a temperature of less than 26 ° C, females hatch, and at a temperature exceeding 31.5 ° C, males appear. In nature, the cubs appear not earlier than in 100 days. They weigh 2-3 grams, the length of the newborn euplicans is 80-85 mm. They have a brownish color with light stripes. By the age of eight months they become stained the same way as adults.
