Education in step with the times: the classification of games in pedagogy

The game is not only a fun and entertaining pastime for children of junior and middle school age. Its elements are included in the educational process in the most active way and comprehensively applied in the lessons. In this connection, in modern didactics, a whole trend has been formed, called gaming pedagogical trends or, more simply, pedagogical games.

The concept of the game in pedagogy

The classification of games in the system of the pedagogical process depends, first of all, on the goals that the teacher strives to achieve, and the real results obtained when applying them. According to the methodological recommendations, the following game typology is adopted.

  • Depending on the types of activity: active physical, i.e. Motor, mobile; Mental (or intellectual); Related to work; Social (imitating social relations); Psychological (modeling various kinds of psychosituations).
  • Classification of games is conducted and depending on the nature of the pedagogical process for which they are applied. In this regard, they can be:

A) teaching, generalizing, controlling, games with elements of education, didactics;

B) cognitive, developing, educating;

C) creative, with elements of diagnosis, reproduction, etc.

  • Another classification of games is associated with the methodology of their conduct. In this connection, there are plot, business, staging, role, etc.
  • By analogy with the school curriculum and subjects, mathematical games are distinguished, in physics, chemistry, and biology; Linguistic, literary, musical, historical; Industrial and labor, sports, physical education, etc.
  • On the environment or the environment involved in the process, the classification of games is determined by their technologies. This gives an opportunity to talk about street, room, computer, desktop, games with different objects or without them.
  • The age criterion is considered one of the determining factors in the selection of forms and methods of analysis and the choice of activities. Therefore, the classification of games of preschoolers will be slightly different than that of students, say, middle and senior level. A child from two to six years old (most often at this age parents give it to the garden) in an entertaining form solves a number of the most difficult tasks for him. All sorts of designers, puzzles, mosaics, liners are an excellent tool for developing games, while older children use other items as accessories. Sticks, cubes, balls, rubber bands and other objects are used by the kids in different subject-building, labor occupations, being at the same time a means of development and motor skills and intellect. Classification of games in lessons is given taking into account not only age, but also school discipline, stages of forms and occupation. For example, a lesson-reportage, lesson-court, lesson-concert, lesson-dramatization are conducted at the final stage of the study of the topic as a generalization. In general, if we talk about the educational process as a whole, the most popular and productive in the school practice of teachers consider imitations, business games, psycho-sociograms.

The main goal of using gaming technologies is to make the learning process more entertaining and productive.
