A shrub with a tender pink flowers and spiny shoots is common in Russia and is so well known that it has become invisible, but also indispensable in the entourage of forests, meadows and orchards of the middle latitudes. The amusing and unusual name "rose dog" shrub was due to a close relationship with garden roses and the practical application of fruits and leaves in the treatment of wounds from canine bites in European countries in the 17-18 centuries. Let's talk about this most interesting plant, its cultivation and peculiarities of care.

"The Rose of a Dog": description

Relating to the extensive family of Pink, rosehip is a deciduous spreading shrub growing to 2-3 meters in height. Its straight, but more often curved or flowing stems with a green bark on the shoots of the current year or reddish - on more adults, are protected by spines, strong and very sharp. On the main stalks, they are sparse and straight, on flowering shoots - frequent and oblate at the base.

Complex odd-pinnate leaves with 5-7 serrate leaves, with sharp tips, bright green on top and bluish on the reverse side, reach 7-9 cm in length. Flowers pink or white with a different range of colors, there is also a "dog rose" yellow with pale yellow or yellowish-milky flowers. Ripened after pollination false bright red fruit has a length of up to 2.5 cm, it is large, oval or globular, glossy-smooth, with feathery incised, downward sepals. From the inside on the walls of the fetus there are many bristly hairs with hard nuggets-fruits between them. "Rose dog", or ordinary, blooms in May-July, the fruits mature in August-September. Growing on forest fringes, felling, in the woodlands, along the banks of rivers and roadside roadsides, the rosehip lights the ruby stars of fruits by the beginning of autumn.

Application

Unobtrusive and decorative bush found application in the garden interior. Many gardeners of temperate latitudes do not represent the fencing of the site better than the hedge of "doggy" dog-rose, achieving at once two goals - a reliable fence and medicinal fruits. Medicinal properties are endowed with all parts of this plant - roots, fruits, leaves, flowers "dog rose". All of them have anti-inflammatory, analgesic and restorative properties to a certain extent. For example, fruits and preparations of them help in the treatment of heart failure, hypertension, problems with blood vessels and skin diseases, leaves relieve conditions in diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, kidneys and lungs, and oil burns seeds, frostbite, frostbite and trophic ulcers.

Good dog rose and in solitary plantings. He well tolerates pruning, after which he heavily branches. But not only these qualities are valuable this wonderful shrub. "Rose dog" - a magnificent stock for garden roses, frost and drought-resistant, surviving in almost any conditions. We will consider the necessary agrotechnical measures for growing and caring.

Landing

Dog rose "dog rose" excellently grows on the soils of any structure, but prefers loam, neutral or slightly acidic. It is so unpretentious that seedlings in containers with a protected root system are planted during the entire growing season. If the roots of the seedlings are open, then the recommended dates are spring or early autumn. The place for planting is sunny, but on shrubbery plots the shrub grows well. Plant the plant in pre-prepared soil (it must be digged with the introduction of humus 2 weeks before the planned planting). The size of the landing pit should be slightly larger than the volume occupied by the root system. After planting, the soil around the plant is well rammed, but not trampled, as there is a danger of damaging the roots and making it difficult to root the seedling.

"Rose dog": reproduction by cuttings

Propagate the dog rose on the plot with seeds, layers or cuttings. All these methods are very effective, but experienced gardeners prefer the cuttings. Reproduction by lignified cuttings is the most convenient, time-saving gardener and allows to save the mother's bush in an excellent productive state method.

Cuttings length of 15-20 cm cut from last year's fruiting stems. Each of them should have 2-3 healthy growth buds. For their rooting, seedlings of about 50 × 20 cm size with drainage holes on the bottom are filled with quarried claydite, small crushed stone or brick crumbs, for two quarters - with a well-mixed soil, the composition of which is as follows: humus, river sand and perlite in a 4: 1 ratio : 0.5. Cuttings are planted at a distance of 10 cm, deepening into the soil at half height. To accelerate the survival rate, the cuttings before planting are treated with a growth biostimulator, for example "Kornevin", dissolving the drug in water, following the recommendations in the annotation. By autumn, the rooting cuttings are transplanted to a permanent place.

A bush grown in this way enters into force and begins fruiting already on the 3rd year after planting.

Green cuttings

Not only lignified cuttings are used in the reproduction of such a plant, as "rose dog". Dog rose "dog" well reproduces and green cuttings. They are cut in early July. At this time, the intensity of growth of new stems is already decreasing, it is from these that cuttings are cut so that on each one there are 2-3 internodes. To improve their rooting, they are kept for several hours in a solution of the biostimulator ("Heteroauxin"). Prepared in this manner cuttings are planted under glass or film, placing them at a distance of 5-8 cm from each other and maintaining a distance of 10 cm in the aisles. The first 2-3 weeks rooting saplings should be regularly watered. They fully acclimatize in about a month, this is evident from the growing growth. From this time, the film shelter is removed, and the seedlings are gradually adapted to the environment. Green cuttings give a good increase in shoots by autumn, but many of them require a high-quality shelter for the winter, as they do not always have time to get stronger to the cold.

Reproduction by layers

Rosehip "Rose of the dog" Successfully multiply also by layers. You can do it in spring and autumn. From the one-year-old seedlings, the strongest shoots are selected and pinned to the ground in several places in pre-prepared grooves filled with humus. Growing new shoots bog down the ground. The next year, the seedlings are separated from the mother's bush and planted on a prepared place. This method is simple and effective, but its disadvantage is that during the winter young shoots can damage rodents, and from one stem, as a rule, no more than two shoots.

Seed Reproduction

This method is usually not used by gardeners for reasons of considerable time. In addition, seed germination usually does not exceed 30%, they germinate hard and only after a long process of stratification. Yes, and collecting seeds is very difficult. They are extracted as follows: the collected unripe fruits are crushed, wiped through a sieve, they are released from the pulp, placed in a container with moist sand and stored in a basement or refrigerator, constantly moisturizing. In autumn they are sown, deepening 1-2 cm. During the winter, the viable seeds finally stratify and germinate by the middle of summer. Bush grown from seeds begins to bear fruit after only 4-5 years.

Trimming

Bushes of wild rose grow quickly enough, losing decorativeness, and they need shaping pruning when they reach the age of three. Pruning is carried out in autumn or early spring, forming a bush and carving up diseased, broken or growing bush branches. The overall height of the bush is also trimmed, focusing on your own ideas or the rules of the garden landscape, on which the site is designed.

Dog Rose Care

Despite the fact that the shrub is drought-resistant, regular watering increases the yield and overall ornamentality of the bush. In addition, watering is mandatory for young plants. For them, and shrubs that are grown for harvest, it is necessary and additional food. Feed the plants in the spring with high-quality organic - humus, compost, overgrown manure or long-acting fertilizer for garden roses. For lack of organic fertilizers during the season, three fertilizing with mineral fertilizers is carried out.

The complex of courtship activities includes regular weeding, or under the bushes mulch the soil and for the whole season free themselves from the removal of weed grass. These methods of agronomy are not burdensome for a horticulturist and are suitable for all types of dog rose ("dog rose"). Varieties of wild roses, to which the family belongs and "dog brier", are numerous. All of them are highly decorative, long and generous blossom, giving gardeners joy and satisfaction.
