Do you know where the panda lives?

Probably, this animal at least once in my life, but I had to see everyone. On TV or in cyberspace, in a zoo or on pages of popular science magazines. And for many modern children, the panda of the copad of the famous animated cartoon anime is almost the most beloved character.

And have you ever thought about where the panda lives, what is the habitat of the bear, what does he prefer to eat and how long does the bear bear the offspring? No?

Then I propose to do it together.

Where the panda lives. general information

First of all, I note at once that the type of animals we are accustomed to calling pandas, and they will be discussed in this article, in science are called big pandas. Why? Yes, because, probably, for someone it will be a discovery, there is also a red panda, which is much smaller, and in its physique and behavior is more like a fox or a raccoon than a bear.

So, a large panda, which is often called a bamboo bear, refers to mammals from the bear family. However, despite its size, for some reasons, including a peculiar black and white color, the animal could be compared with raccoons. Apparently, therefore, scientists took so long to classify the once discovered creature in the forests of central China (the provinces of Tibet and Sichuan).

The Chinese even invented a different name for him. In the Middle Kingdom it is called a bear-cat and is loved so much that, starting from the second half of the 20th century, the panda bear became a revered emblem and symbol of a huge and densely populated country.

Where the panda lives. Habitat features

These rare animals are found only in the mountainous areas of central and southern China. These areas are densely covered with damp and cold forests, which is an ideal environment for the growth of bamboo, the favorite delicacy of a bear-cat.

Their area of habitation can be considered an area of about 30 thousand square kilometers. Growing up, each individual gradually acquires its own territory, marking it with marks on trees. In general, we can say that pandas are quite isolated mammals, leading a mostly secluded lifestyle. They seldom invade the possessions of their congeners.

Night is their time! It is in the twilight or in the impenetrable darkness that they arrange for themselves real feasts of bamboo. In the afternoon they prefer to sleep, sitting in the hollow of a large tree or in a secluded place among the rocks.

It should be noted and the fact that like all bears, pandas can easily stand on their hind legs, examining the terrain, but they quickly get tired and prefer to rest more often.

Where the panda lives. Interesting facts about the life of bears There are many such facts, I will list only those who, from my point of view, were the most interesting.

  • Panda prefers to eat constantly, of course, except for the time intended for sleep.
  • The daily diet is an enormous amount of food, of which, however, is rarely digested more than 17%.
  • The version that these individuals feed exclusively on bamboo is erroneous. They do not disdain the found roots, various forest roots, bark of trees, mushrooms, grass and flowers. In very rare cases, the panda can attack other mammals or diversify their diet with freshly harvested fish. A special delicacy is honey extracted from the nests of wild bees.
  • Pregnancy of the puberty of five-year, less often eight-year, panda lasts from 95 to 160 days. As a rule, after the expiration of this term, one or two babies are born to the female. However, the second, one way or another, is doomed to death, because Mothers care in most cases only about the first-born.
