Diseases of lilies: how to treat?

If you decide to breed lilies on your dacha, you can be congratulated. This is a good choice, lilies are stunningly beautiful. But before you engage in planting, you should consider more fully information about the diseases that are affected by lilies, and their pests. It should be added that some diseases arise from inappropriate care.

What do lilies suffer from?

One of the most dangerous and common can be called fungal diseases of lilies. Botritis, or gray rot, is a very serious disease. It is dangerous because the infection spreads very quickly over all the seedlings. At high humidity, fungi can kill a plant in just a few days. First, young lower leaves are affected, then the disease spreads to the stem and buds. Snow white hybrids of lilies are very susceptible to botrytis.

Fusarium - this disease causes rotting of the lower part of the bulb, gradually the disease covers and destroys it all. Infection occurs through tissue damage (obtained, as a rule, by mechanical means). Fungus can be entered during fertilization, together with insufficiently repaired manure. Under favorable conditions (high soil moisture), the fungus can stay in the ground for a couple of years.

In appearance it is almost impossible to determine the disease. The plant continues to grow and develop normally. Such bulbs die during the wintering period, they brownish and fall apart.

Fitium and blue mold are diseases of lilies, which are manifested in the decay of bulbs and roots.

If you notice that the plant begins to drift, the color of leaves, flowers changes, and the lily itself ceases to look as decorative as it used to be, then, perhaps, the flower has a viral disease. Viral diseases of lilies affect the appearance of flowers: on leaves there may appear spots or streaks, the plant dries up and ceases to bloom. However sad it may sound, viruses can not be cured, and therefore such plants must be immediately destroyed in order to prevent the spread of the disease to other cultures.

Diseases of lilies can arise due to a lack of certain trace elements, poor drainage in the soil, resulting in rotting of the roots, and the plant does not receive the necessary nutrition.

Unfavorable conditions for plant growth primarily affect their appearance. Changing the color of the leaves, dysplasia, development of the plant are all lily diseases (photos are shown) that can be eliminated and help the plant.

Pests

Harmful insects, which will not miss the opportunity to spoil the beautiful view of the lily, quite a lot. There are several insects of a specific type. For example, a lily beetle is a bright red color that eats leaves of plants. The larvae of such a beetle can leave a lily almost without them.

The bulbous fly is dangerous because the larvae laid by it, make their way into the bulb, which then rots from the damage.

Lilia fly - the larvae of this insect, prefer to eat delicate parts of buds, and the consequences of these pests become visible when the flower is blossoming.

And, of course, aphids, which are dangerous because they carry viruses that cause disease.

Both pests of lilies, and animals, many of which are not averse to pampering their stomach with tasty bulbs - all these factors need to be protected by the plant.

To prevent the plants from getting sick, they always looked very decorative, it is necessary to take care of such things in advance as fertilizers and preparations necessary for treatment and protection.
