Diclofenac (eye drops)

"Diclofenac" (eye drops) are a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug. This drug is available on prescription. The active substance in it is diclofenac sodium, and as auxiliary substances - disodium edetate, propylene glycol, sodium chloride, sodium dodecahydrate hydrophosphate, sodium hydroxide solution, dihydrogen phosphate dihydrate and water for injection.

"Diclofenac" (eye drops) have analgesic effect. Their use allows you to remove the swelling and pain that occur when there are inflammations. They also block the development of the miosis.

Drops of "Diclofenac" quite quickly and well penetrate into all tissues of the eye, with the exception of the lens. The greatest concentration of this agent is achieved already thirty to forty minutes after its instillation. In therapeutically significant concentrations, the drug does not enter the systemic circulation.

Diclofenac (eye drops): indications for use

This drug should be taken in the following cases:

- with inhibition of miosis during the operative intervention to eliminate cataracts;

- for prevention, as well as for the treatment of inflammations that may occur on the eyeball after carrying out operations on it;

- to prevent cystic edema of the macula that occurs after a surgical procedure for cataract removal;

- if necessary, treatment of non-infectious conjunctivitis;

- for conducting preventive therapy and treatment of posttraumatic inflammation in the composition of antibacterial therapy.

Basic contraindications for use

It is not recommended to use "Diclofenac" (eye drops) in the presence of disorders of hematopoiesis of unknown origin, with exacerbation of erosive-ulcerative processes in the gastrointestinal tract and with intolerance of the components that make up its composition.

Carefully apply this medication to people with bronchial asthma, which is caused by the use of acetylsalicylic acid, hemophilia, a tendency to bleeding, epithelial herpetic keratitis, and also to the elderly.

Up to 18 years, as well as pregnant women or mothers breastfeeding, this remedy can be used only in the most urgent cases.

Diclofenac (eye drops): instructions

In order to inhibit the intraoperative miosis, this drug should be instilled in the conjunctival sac for two hours before the beginning of the operation.

If this drug is used as a prophylaxis for cystic edema of the macula, then one drop should be instilled up to three times a day, and the treatment period is two to three weeks.

As a treatment, depending on the severity of the disease, one drop of the drug is instilled up to four times a day, the duration is 1-2 weeks.

Possible side effects

After applying the drug "Diclofenac" (eye drops), there may be burning sensation in the eye, corneal opacities, blurred vision, itchy eyes, hyperemia, fever, angioedema, photosensitization, chills, nausea, skin rashes, multiforme exudative erythema and vomiting.

It is allowed to use this medication together with other eye drops, as well as with those drugs that contain glucocorticosteroids. The only condition is that between their introduction should take at least 5 minutes. This is done so that the injected product does not wash out the previous one.

In the presence of contact lenses for the time of drug administration, they should be removed and put on not earlier than half an hour after using the drug.

If there is an indistinct visual perception, it is better to refrain from transport management and occupations, where increased attention and reaction is necessary.
