Diagnostic connector: device and purpose

It's no secret that the most reliable way to identify faults is computer diagnostics of the car. Thanks to the use of special tools, it is possible to accurately identify and even prevent a malfunction in any part and system of the machine. And that the computer equipment could read the data and determine the error codes, there is a diagnostic connector in the car's interior. About him and will be discussed today.

What is he?

External diagnostic connector ("Prior VAZ" including) resembles a kind of outlet, which connects a special wire that connects the car with computer equipment. And this cord is not simple, but diagnostic. It costs a lot of money - about 4-5 thousand rubles. If you connect a conventional wire from an extension cord, you can not get any data. About them we'll talk a little later, and as for the connectors themselves, each manufacturer completes its cars with different devices. All of them differ in their form and are placed in the salon in different ways. And if the computer equipment can be connected absolutely to any machine, be it Lada Granta or Autlender, then the diagnostic socket and the plug need to be purchased for each car.

How important is it?

In the car system, it is simply irreplaceable. Without this device, it is impossible to make a full diagnosis, even if you have a plug and software. Connect all this good there will be nowhere, so the connector should always be serviceable. It is the connecting node that transmits information and error codes from the computer through the cord to the monitor screen of the diagnostic equipment.

Manufacturing

All car connectors are manufactured in separate workshops with the use of special technical tools and equipment. As the material of the case on such products, black ABS plastic is often used. The connector is OBD II compliant. From above it is applied silver or tin. The last material is most often covered by the diagnostic connector of VAZ and "Volga". All these devices are manufactured on a special press-mold for special technologies.

Cables

For today it is possible to allocate three basic cords which are connected to a diagnostic socket:

  • Euroscan.
  • Uniscan.
  • KL-Line.

All of them are equally effective and can transmit information with high accuracy. Unlike connectors, cords can be used on several cars, that is, be universal.

Price

It is worth noting that the more a car is equipped with electronics, the more expensive its diagnostic equipment. So, the price for connectors for imported cars is about 5-10 thousand rubles. In 2 times cheaper devices for modern VAZ type "Priora" and "Largusa". The cheapest diagnostic connector is for older "Volga" and VAZ "classics", although it is unclear why they are needed there and what relation they have to computer diagnostics. They cost from 140 to 300 rubles, but, considering how Soviet machines were "stuffed" with electronics, there is no benefit from them.
