Decoding of the bar code. Helpful information

This article will tell you what a decryption of the barcode is, with which you can easily record information.

A barcode refers to the encoded information read by special devices. It is applied to the packaging, it has the form of strokes. The bar code allows you to encode information about some important product parameters.

Most common are EAN (European coding system) and US universal commodity code UPC.

How is the bar code decryption done? About this below.

The encoded information includes:

- Country code, usually two or three digits;

- the manufacturer's code is four or five digits - it all depends on the length of the country code;

- further five more figures - the name of the goods, its color, mass, size and consumer properties;

- the last, eighth digit is a control one, which is used to check the correctness of reading the scanner strokes.

Sometimes on the right there is a ">" sign, which means the release of the product under license.

Decoding the barcode provides a lot of important information about the product.

In order to check whether the original barcode or not, you need to make the following calculations. Fold all the numbers, which are located on even places. Then, multiply the sum by three. We save the result, we will call it "X".

Next, add the numbers (but only without a control number), located on odd places, to this sum we add the number "X", obtained earlier. From the sum that turned out (we call it "YZ"), we leave only Z. Then the simplest action is performed: 10-Z.

If the digit that was received matches the checksum specified in the barcode, then the product is genuine. If it does not, then this product was produced without observing the law.

The decoding of the barcode will be able to disclose information about the country in which the goods are manufactured, the identification number of the enterprise, the name of the goods.

This encoding of information is used throughout the world. So, let's look at the types of barcodes.

One of the simplest barcodes is "2 out of 5". The signs, which designate the numbers from zero to nine, contain five strokes in themselves, two of them wide, and three narrow ones.

Spaces that are between the strokes do not carry any information and usually the width of the space is equal to the width of the narrow stroke. This code, in addition to numbers, contains the signs "start" and "stop". Only three strokes are used in their image, of which two are wide. Spaces of information do not carry, the code "2 of 5" series is discrete, so its printing is simplified and single errors are automatically detected.

Currently, the barcode of the product can also be multicolored.

The code "Kodabar" is a discrete seven-element bar code. It contains numbers from zero to nine, the signs "-" and "+", ".", "/", ":", 4 signs "start / stop" and the dollar sign. The bar code symbols "Kodabar" are limited to the left and to the right. The sign looks like four strokes and three spaces.

The bar code "39" is named because of the structure of the image of the signs "3 and 9", where three elements (one space and two strokes) of nine are wide, the remaining six are wide. This code is quite reliable, in which its advantage is shown. Also, the reliability of such code can be increased by adding a control character to the symbol.

The barcode of the goods is a way of recording information.

A bar code "93" occupies a special place among different systems of bar coding. Having the same set of information signs, like the code "39", it is capable of providing a high density of image symbols. Forty-eight characters are shown in the code "93". It includes the signs "start / stop", four control marks and forty three characters from the code "39".

With the possibility of coding one hundred and twenty eight different characters, the name of the bar code "128" is associated. The code "128" is uncontrolled and continuous code. Its signs contain three dashes and three spaces, and the length of each equals eleven modules.

We examined some of the types of barcodes that are used throughout the world.
