"BMW E65" car: description, technical characteristics, features and reviews

"BMW" 7 series is a luxury sedan from the Bavarian automotive concern. A car with a long history is produced to this day. The car has survived several generations, which will be discussed in this article. Particular attention will be paid to the body of the BMW E65.

History of the model

The first generation of the company's flagship flagship was released in 1977. The car body wore the E23 index and was produced for 10 years. The car was a real breakthrough for the global automotive industry and competed with other luxury sedans from German automakers. In this segment, only the brands of the country in question competed.

The second generation appeared in 1986 and was produced before 1994. This body became the most sold in the history of the whole model. The executive sedan became a real classic from BMW. The machine was equipped with very powerful units for its time: 3-liter and 3.4-liter units with a maximum speed of up to 250 km / h. The car was equipped with either a 4-speed automatic or a 5-speed manual gearbox.

The third generation in the E38 body got on the conveyor in 1994. The model was quite innovative for its representative class: diesel engines were installed in the sedan. Before the company BMW, no one even thought to put diesel in luxury cars. The model lived until 2001.

The following year the generation of BMW E65 came, which will be considered in more detail. The model boasted a wide range of engines and a wide variety of modifications. Accordingly, and the price for the sedan has grown significantly.

From 2008 to 2015 inclusive produced the fifth generation of the sedan. The body index was replaced by F01. The line of motors, in addition to the usual petrol and diesel variants, also represented a hybrid version of the car. The design of the machine as a whole is similar to the previous generation, but more refined and modern.

New generation

In 2015, the Germans introduced the newest generation of the flagship sedan - the body of the G11. The car has changed dramatically both externally and technically. The machine is produced in the usual and long version. In the near future car restyling is not planned.

The history of the 7th series is rich in ups and downs. However, the most popular car was exactly "BMW E65". Let's consider it in more detail.

Appearance

The designers of the model tried their best. If you recall the body of the previous generation, then it was dominated by direct and strict forms. The new body became smooth and calm. It no longer traced "gangster" roots. Smooth front optics, matching taillights. The side part looks like a front end and a stern - stylish and in the spirit of the times. There is still a classic radiator grille consisting of two halves. In the front optics are built two headlights, above them in the form of cilia made turn signals. The car looks modern even after about 10 years after release.

The back of the car was very special. The lateral line of the body from the front to the rear gradually waned. At the rear optics it completely drops to the bumper. The luggage compartment lid is allocated as if it does not belong to this car or it was made by quite different designers. But still this chip attached a memorable appearance to the sedan.

However, not all warmly perceived the novelty of the BMW E65. Automobile critics and magazine editions of that time have made the model in the list of the worst cars. But the admirers of the brand took the novelty quite warmly, and the owners say it almost always in a positive way.

Body options

The model entered the market in three versions: a conventional sedan, an armored body and an extended long version. About the last it is necessary to talk more in detail. The body was longer by 140 mm, the width was the same. The car was a little understated, as a result of which the sedan began to look more rapidly than the usual version. The maximum weight of the sedan is up to 2 tons 100 kilograms.

Salon

There was also a small revolution in the salon. Call it evolution is difficult, because the really changed elements were few, so only a revolution. The front panel is recognizable, but with some modifications. First, there was a multimedia screen that shows all the information and navigation. Also, it displays all the engine malfunctions, almost any possible error. "BMW E65" is equipped with a computer self-diagnosis, which checks the technical condition of the car before the trip.

On the quality of materials much to say is not necessary - this is a representative class from the BMW, and that says it all. Natural leather, coupled with quality plastic and wooden inserts (at the request of the buyer) is impressive even today, especially if you find an option in a preserved or restored condition.

Between the driver and the front passenger is a large armrest with a soft lining. It incorporates the controls of the seats. It is very convenient when compared with other sedans in which these buttons are on the side of the seat itself, at the bottom.

Rear seats

The car is exclusively four-seater in all variants. Therefore, for the two rear passengers all conceivable and unthinkable comfort conditions are created. Here, and separate climate control, and curtains on the side windows, music management and comfortable armrest with a built-in small refrigerator. The luggage compartment of the car is also pleasantly surprising. Despite the fact that all the efforts of the creators were thrown on the comfort and interior equipment of the salon, the luggage compartment was not forgotten either. The electric drive opens and closes the trunk lid. Inside, several large bags will be safely placed, so you can go on a long trip on this car.

Restyling

The model was restyling in 2005. The design was changed only in the exterior of the body. The car became very different from the pre-styling version. The headlights took on a more familiar look. The car got rid of the obsessive kind of trunk lid, but left recognizable shapes.

The changes also touched the technical part of the car. It added a lot more options, in the modification was added a new trim salon, steering and seats. All engines were also upgraded.

Technical characteristics of "BMW 7 E65"

In the line of motors of the restyling version there were two engines: a 3.6-liter engine with a power of 272 horsepower and a 4.4-liter engine with 333 horses under the hood. Also there was a more powerful unit in the line, which was installed on the version of the BMW 745 E65, a motor with a volume of 5 liters and acceleration to 100 kilometers in less than 6.5 seconds.

In the line of engines, it was not without diesel units - 220-strong and 260-strong engines. All modifications are equipped with an automatic gearbox.

A few years after the start of the release, the Germans decided to develop a unique motor for the most powerful version - 760 in an elongated body. Under her hood was a powerful V12 engine with a capacity of 6 liters and a capacity of 450 horsepower. A mark of 100 km on the speedometer is overcome in just 5.5 seconds.

Complete sets of a sedan

All options available for installation were offered to buyers individually. That's why it's hard to find two similar versions. At the time of the release of the restyling version, the cheapest version of the sedan was worth 2 million 500 thousand rubles. The version with a full complete set, all options and the most powerful motor cost a little more than 5 million rubles (an elongated body).

BMW Е65: owner feedback

Since this car is more than 10 years old, it's worth talking about its reliability and practicality. This is the best and only the owners of the car can tell in more detail.

First, almost all owners claim that it is necessary to closely monitor the quality of the oil. "BMW E65" is extremely vulnerable to low-quality liquids, which is why very often there are difficulties with the operation and general condition of the motor. However, for any quality of oil, the car starts to have problems after 80,000 kilometers of mileage - increased engine oil consumption and gearboxes. This problem can be attributed not only to the "seven" in the body of the E65, but also to almost all cars of this brand.

For diesel engines, the quality of the fuel is very important. Even more than for gasoline units. The most serious problems can be encountered in models with an 8-cylinder engine. There are factory problems with a mirror cylinder, as well as with gaps. However, in later versions, these problems were eliminated by the company itself.

With a high mileage there are jerks and difficulties when switching gears. In general, we can not say that this car was made ideally in terms of technology. After reaching a certain bar in operation, many nodes and parts begin to literally "pour in". The only thing that does not cause any complaints even years later in the technical part of the BMW E65 is the automatic transmission and its stable operation.

Also there are difficulties with the diagnosis and operation of electronic systems within Russia. As there are not so many service centers dealing with servicing old 7 series sedans, there may be minor problems with diagnostics.

In general, the engine "BMW E65" in its work is not a censure. Especially if the car was regularly monitored during the entire service life, timely repairs and diagnostics were performed, and supplies were changed.

About the body and salon reviews are positive. The only negative aspect in the quality of appearance is the side window racks. Over time, they begin to fade in the sun and look too shabby. To the salon of the "seven" claims almost no - the assembly in the "BMW" is very high quality and has been preserved for 8-10 years in an acceptable condition.

Currently, you can buy the 7 series in the body of the E65 at a wide variety of prices. It all depends on the current state of the car. The cheapest options can be found for 400 thousand rubles. In a good condition, a pre-upgrade version can be purchased for 1 million 100 thousand rubles.
