Construction nails: what are they and what are they used for?

Construction nails are the simplest of all fasteners. Without them, not a single construction site can do. A variety of shapes and sizes of nails allows you to choose the most suitable options. It is one of the most ancient fasteners, as it has been used by man since time immemorial. Archeologists found nails that belonged to bronze culture. These are forged and cast specimens. Later, when making nails, iron or copper wire was used. Until the beginning of the XIX century, all fasteners were made by hand. Then, special machines for making nails from wire were invented.

Today, building nails are made of different wire, different cross-section, diameter and length. All of them are used in certain cases. To fix it was reliable and durable, it is worth carefully choosing the nails, because if they are used for other purposes, the fastener will soon loosen up and make itself felt.

Depending on the construction and material, the construction nails can be used to fasten the most common wooden boards or to attach a certain structure to the reinforced concrete base. It is very difficult to imagine construction work without the use of nails. When flooring plank floors without these fasteners can not do, in the manufacture of wooden stairs without nails, too, anywhere. They are used for fixing skirting boards, installing door frames and windows. About where nails are used, you can talk for a very long time. At the same time, they are all designed for different loads.

One of the varieties of nails are roofing nails. They are used for fastening to a tree of metal sheets, soft roofing or corrugated board. Such fasteners are produced with a flat smooth bonnet, they are made of low-carbon steel.

Standard construction nails are made of steel wire or steel, which has not undergone thermal treatment. Mark them with two numbers, which denote the diameter and length of the rod. Hats are different, they can be either smooth or corrugated. On some nails, it is possible to apply a notch on the rod. It is needed for a more durable and strong connection of structures. Nails with serifs are used in cases where it is necessary to fasten boards of different wood.

There are also building nails, which are used only for certain purposes. To this type of fasteners are square nails, with a double or L-shaped bonnet. With a double cap can be used when working with formwork. They can be very easily pulled out with a nail, and they are clogged up quite easily. With L-shaped hats can be used as hooks, and that they do not scroll, a special notch is provided. It is these nails that are necessary in case the part needs only to be attached to the base, but not to pierce through it.

All nails used in construction can be either galvanized or non-galvanized. The second ones are relatively short-lived, therefore it is recommended to use them only for temporary fastening. In all other cases, it is better to choose galvanized nails.
