City park of Lenin, Belgorod: description, history, mode of operation and interesting facts

This park exists in Belgorod for so long that many townspeople, especially young people, seem to have always been here. Although, probably, it has never been so comfortable and loved by local residents, as it is today.

The Central Park named after Lenin (Belgorod) was opened in 1956. Thousands of trees were planted here. The center of the park was decorated with a magnificent fountain "Horovod", a playground was created nearby. At the very beginning of the central alley a monument was erected from plaster to VI Lenin.

From the history of the park: interesting facts

The present place of rest for Belgorod citizens (then it was beyond the city limits) existed even before the revolution, at the end of the 19th century. Here was created a city nursery in which peasants could get free planting material and implements for planting. The area of this territory was 25 hectares.

The main part of it was occupied by willows, 300 thousand deciduous trees and as many coniferous trees were grown in the rest of the territory. The park became a spontaneous place of rest for the townspeople, then it was not called the park of culture. In the twenties and thirties, periodically in the local press was raised the question of restructuring this massif into a real park, some activities were planned.

But the Great Patriotic War broke out, and instead of the planned recreation zone it became a cemetery for German officers and soldiers. During the excavations it was found out that not only fascists, but also Frenchmen, Czechs, Russians, who fought on the side of Germany, were buried in the park. Here the bodies of executed prisoners of war and local residents rested. After the war, the cemetery was razed to the ground so that it did not remind us of the terrible times of the fascist occupation.

Postwar years

In January 1954 Belgorod received the status of a regional center and its large-scale reconstruction began: construction of residential and administrative buildings, hospitals, schools. Gradually the turn came to the city park. Thousands of trees were planted here, and this was done on subbotniks by activists, smashed flowerbeds and lawns, alleys. In the center of the park was installed the fountain "Horovod". There was a children's playground, a pavilion-reading room and an outdoor cinema were built.

The central alley was decorated with fan palm trees, and in its beginning a monument to Vladimir Lenin was erected, which was moved here from the Revolution Square. Throughout the territory, white figures of landscape architecture from gypsum were installed. In the evenings, a brass band played on the right of the entrance. In the south-western part of the park, a round dance floor was organized, on which an instrumental orchestra played, and in the intervals there was a radio. The city youth spent their free time here.

He worked in the park chess-checkers club and compulsory at that time lecture. The park's decoration was opened in September 1957, the summer cinema "October", which became the center of the cultural life of the city - folk and variety ensembles, ballet companies, drama and circus groups performed here.

At that time Lenin Park already had many attractions. The most popular of them was a tarpaulin-covered airplane with a propeller. It rotated vertically in a circle, and it could only be visited by adults. Lenina Park (Belgorod) was a favorite vacation spot for the townspeople. Activities held here, collected a lot of adults and young visitors.

On the square in front of the Oktyabr cinema on Maslenitsa, the Belgorod residents saw off the Russian winter. In the center of the square a smooth high pillar was installed, on the top of which a prize was suspended: a live rooster or chrome boots. There were many who wanted to get it, but not everyone could get to the top.

On the main avenue, high snow slides were built, on which adults and children were riding, who was sitting, who was standing, and who was on all fours. It has always been very fun and noisy.

Decline and Revival

The black belt in the history of the park came in the 90s of the last century. Technical equipment and physically, and morally decayed, employees for months did not receive salaries, the cultural and mass work, including with children, was practically stopped. Her long-time work was stopped by the beloved actress of the city drama theater MI Baskova (Arina's grandmother), who for many years told children stories at children's playgrounds, danced with them, read poetry.

The reading room was closed, the playground was empty, the orchestra music was not heard. In working condition there was a dance floor, and beer stalls. Left unattended specialists and proper care trees, died or they were cut down for the construction of another stall. Disappeared and the metal fence of the park, and garden and park sculpture. In those hard times for the whole country, the park of Lenin (Belgorod) reminded little of the place of cultural rest.

Reconstruction

In 2000, the reconstruction of the old park began. In those days, the local administration did not think about the development of infrastructure, so the owners of the city chain of shops paid for the work at their own expense. The project of the new park was recognized as revolutionary. Since in our country at that time there were no suitable analogs for the development of the park system, it was decided in the construction industry to focus on foreign analogues, which still amaze with scope and functionality.

Creating a park in Lenin (Belgorod), the organizers tried not to copy the Western model, but successfully combine the foreign versions with the original Russian national traditions. It should be noted that the townspeople enthusiastically accepted the idea of reconstructing the old park, so there were no problems with the search for volunteers and workers. Over 400 people took part in the restoration of their favorite vacation spot. Thanks to their efforts, the park was reborn and again became a popular holiday destination - it is a multifunctional, beautiful area that consists of lawns and squares, live fences and numerous attractions for children and adults.

Park in our days

Vegetation

The main part of the park today is poplar. These huge trees, in June, literally wrap the park in white fluff, which gives visitors a lot of inconvenience. But gradually the old trees are removed, and new ones are planted in their place. In recent years, there have appeared many shrubs and different colors. Recently, the "pink king" varieties were planted. These trees with a spherical crown meet guests at the main entrance and on the playground. There also appeared beautiful blue fir trees.
