City of Vidnoe: St. George's Church

As valuable pearls are scattered throughout Russia Orthodox churches, each of which has its own unique history. And here is one of such holy places - St. George's Church. Prominent - it's still a young city in which it was built. This locality is relatively small, its population is about 58 000 people. Once it was decided to build a temple in it. As it turned out, the city of Vidnoe was recognized as the most comfortable among small towns. St. George's temple was built precisely because there was never before its own local church. Since then, parishioners can always come here for advice and help at any time.

At the very beginning of 2004, Metropolitan Yuvenaly came to the Catherine monastery, located on the outskirts of the city, to make a service in the Vidnovsky land to establish the central city church. Vladyka immediately went to the alleged site of the construction of the church. Interestingly, all these events were completely unpredictable, and therefore conducted without a protocol. Because of this, the great action did not have a special solemnity at that time. But everything was filled up with God's blessing, which all those present felt then.

Yes, exactly, almost suddenly, the construction of a new shrine of the city of Vidnoe began. St. George's temple to design steel in March 2005. First, a coordinating council was set up, which engaged in attracting philanthropists for financing, land registration, obtaining construction permits and supervising work.

The architects faced the challenge of creating heavenly music that froze in stone. It was decided to build a church for the bells, so that the belfry was located under the main dome of a two-story church. On the first floor, it was planned to create a church, conduct day-to-day services, for Sunday school - two classes, offices, office and utility rooms. In the uppermost floor was to be located the main building of the temple.

Building

By May 2005, the foundation pit had already been dug, all summer work was in full swing, and at the end of August they had already erected the stylobate part. On the day of the 40th anniversary of the city of Vidnoe (September 10, 2005) there were festive celebrations attended by Metropolitan Yuvenaly. He performed one of the very first services - a thanksgiving service in the lower part of the church.

On the Bright Easter 2006, with the blessing of Vladyka, priest Mikhail Egorov, rector of St. George's Church, performed the first Divine Liturgy. A lot of people gathered for this event, and, according to the witnesses themselves, Easter turned out to be an extraordinary and unforgettable one. Everything went very solemnly and beautifully: the first lit candles, the fragrance of incense, the open sky instead of the domes, and the blessed fire brought from Jerusalem was heard right under the stars.

Decoration

The head of the district V. Yu. Golubev, having learned about the sale of the Moscow antique icons of the XIX century, written by the monks of St. Athos, and taking advantage of the moment, bought for their personal funds two of them - the Mother of God, called "Mammal" and the great martyr healer Panteleimon.

In the article "The City of Vidnoye: St. George's Temple," it should be noted that since July 2006, fine manual work on the art decoration and six mosaic icons was under way (M. Kesler and M. Bogdanova were among the leaders). The painting of the temple was handled by icon painters under the direction of N. Azarova and L. Kalinnikov. A temple icon of the great-martyr George the Victorious was created in the workshop of Shchegra. In the silver cuff of the saint was placed a particle of his relics, transferred by the monastic brotherhood of the Trinity-St. Sergius Lavra. As a result, the church was built for 1 year and 3 months. In its creation people of different backgrounds and professions took part, they did not remain indifferent, they became brothers and sisters.

Divine services are held daily in the church.

St. George's Temple (Vidnoye) has the following schedule:

1. On weekdays, services are performed in the lower church of Novomuchennikov and confessors of Russia.
2. On Saturdays, Sundays and holidays - in the upper church of the Holy Great Martyr George the Victorious.
