Christoph Dugarry - the legend of "Bordeaux"

Christoph Dugarry is a very strong forward of his time, who spent an impressive part of his career in his native club, Bordeaux. Only then he began to try himself in new clubs, but nowhere is he fixed as he did in his first team. What was the career path that Christophe Dugarrie passed, who ended his career more than ten years ago?

Native club "Bordeaux"

Christoph Dugarry was born on March 24, 1972 and found himself at the academy of the Bordeaux club at a fairly early age. At the age of 18 he signed a professional contract with this team, but on an ongoing basis he did not begin to speak at once. For the first two seasons he played only two games, then at the age of 21 he got a place in the base - he played 38 matches for his club, but was able to score only four goals. That season was a failure not only for Christophe, but for the whole club - Bordeaux flew to the second division, and the players had to struggle hard to return to the big leagues. They did it, and until 1996, Christophe Dugarrie spent four more seasons in Bordeaux as the main striker and attracted the attention of the leading clubs in the world. The fastest was the Italian "Milan", which signed the 24-year-old striker for six and a half million euros.

Going to Milan

However, in "Milan" Christoph Dugarry, whose photos began to appear in all football magazines, unfortunately did not play - he could not show the very performance that was famous for his performances for "Bordeaux", so after only a year he was sold to Barcelona "For four million.

Another failure

But in Catalonia, the Frenchman did not get along too well - he practically did not get any practice games, so he did not stay in the new club even as much as he stayed at Milan. Already in the winter of 1998, the biography of Christoph Dugarry took a steep turn - and the player returned to his homeland, to France. Only now he began to speak not for "Bordeaux", but for "Marcel", which paid him five and a half million euros.

The new heyday in "Marseilles"

For two years, held in the "Marseilles", the 26-year-old striker was able to restore his former glory and start to score a sufficient number of balls to again attract public attention. Of course, he came from Barcelona as the winner of the Spanish Championship, but in "Marcel" he started to play much more impressively, even though he could not win a single trophy.

Return to Bordeaux

In the winter of 2000, "the return of the prodigal son" happened - Christophe Dugarry for six million euros returned to his native club. There, he quickly regained a place in the base and began to score beautiful and impressive, and most importantly - useful goals. In many ways, with his help, "Bordeaux" in 2002 won the French League Cup. However, Christophe was thirty years old, and he was not as young as before. Therefore, in the winter of 2003, he went on a six-month lease in English to Birmingham.

Movement towards the completion of a career

After the completion of the lease in "Birmingham" Dugarry was left without a club, until in 2004 he signed an annual contract with the Qatar club "Qatar". There he played until February 2005, after which he announced his retirement. And even at the club level, Christophe did not achieve much success, he was part of the French team, which in 1998 won the World Cup, and in 2000 - the European Championships.

Performances for the French national team

Dugarry made his debut as a member of the French national team in 1994 at the age of 22 in a friendly match against the Slovenian national team. He was called to the European Championship in 1996, where he went on the field in every match of the group stage. In the triumphant World Championship, he played only 90 minutes in the group stage and twenty minutes in the final. At the European Championships in 2000, Dugarri often came up with a substitute, scoring a goal for the Dutch in the group stage match. And the 2002 World Cup was the last for Christophe last - after the departure of the French from the group he announced the completion of his career in the team.
