Chinook: what is it?
In some books that are devoted to the nature of the Far East, and also when talking to local people from those parts, it is quite possible to hear completely unusual names for animals and fish. Chinook is not an exception. What it is?
Description
That's it, chinook. What is this fish, if we talk about appearance? Its appearance is also unlikely to leave even one hunter or fisherman indifferent: a powerful muscular body, resembling a submarine torpedo. Color - "camouflage", olive-greenish color prevails.
In a word, the chinook salmon (which you already know) gives all of its appearance to a predator. And this is really so, because the basis of her diet is a small fry and other animal feed.
The narrative of the "prince of salmon," as the chinook is respectfully enthusiastically called the Japanese, would be incomplete without a story of his marriage attire. As you know, salmon are very rare in this period of their life. And why trifle, because immediately after spawning they die ...
Her whole body becomes dark red, sometimes brick-brown, and the back and head acquire anthracite color. Whatever you say, but the appearance of such a fish, multiplied by its enormous size, less visible in the river does not it! What is used by a great many living creatures: from scavengers picking carcasses of weakened chinook salmon, and ending with a man with bears, who have been competing for the first time in fishing for salmonids.
As the red fish of the chinook is simply incomparable: the meat is rich in raspberry, rich and tender. According to the price category, this fish is below the same salmon, but in terms of its taste and nutritional qualities, it is in no way inferior to it. If you once decide to go to Alaska, then immediately warn: smoked on the bricks chinook is so tasty that you can greatly recover, trying in vain to get rid of the specialty of any self-respecting institution in those parts!
Properties
By the way, it is appreciated not only because of its surprising taste and high nutritional value! The fact is that chinook salmon has an amazing property: its meat helps prevent the development of many dangerous pathologies in those who eat it at least relatively regularly.
The meat contains vitamins A, E, C, K, as well as a mass of microelements, the most significant of which are copper, zinc, selenium and iron. All this, even to people who are very far from medicine, gives reason to believe that chinook is useful in anemia, chronic fatigue, hypovitaminosis, recovery from severe illnesses.
In a word, the sea has useful qualities. In general, chinook salmon (what it is, we already know) in previous years was caught with such incredible energy that by the 90's there was a serious danger of its extermination. Even now, when the same Japanese sometimes do not observe any catch rates at all, such a variant is not ruled out.
