Chest bruise. First aid and treatment options

A bruise is a violation of the integrity of soft tissues with damage to the blood vessels, in other, more severe cases, of the skin and muscles. A bruise is a consequence of the mechanical impact on the body of a blunt object (impact or fall on it).

Contusion of the chest, even with the integrity of the ribs, is accompanied by pain sensations of varying intensity, edema, hematomas of varying severity. The nature of the damage and the degree of clinical manifestations depend on the strength of the impact and the mechanism of injury. The bruise of the chest is dangerous because it can lead to disruption of the heart activity and lung function. With severe bruises, there is a risk of damage to the heart, lung, and also fracture of the ribs. If a large vessel bursts in the tissues, a hemorrhage may occur.

A bruise or concussion of the contents of the chest, as a rule, is accompanied by a severe condition of the victim. In this case, it is important to diagnose the degree of damage to the internal organs and make a decision about the treatment according to the diagnosis.

During the rendering of the first aid to the victim, one should immediately call an ambulance! To consult at doctors about necessity of treatment in a hospital too does not prevent. Before the arrival of specialists, the victim is provided with complete rest, put a cold compress on the place of damage - this can be a container with cold water or ice. The sufferer must also give some kind of analgesic. The imposition of tight bandages with contusion of the thorax is categorically contraindicated in order to avoid damage to the lung.

Self-treatment of bruises.

If the doctor's recommendations do not exclude the possibility of self-treatment, the following measures should be taken:

- The first day you need to continue applying a cold compress. Cold will help reduce swelling with bruises and a little pain.

- as the next stage in the treatment of bruises, you can apply lotions, warm baths and compresses. They will help to remove swelling with bruises and bruises. For compress use arnica tincture or prepare the infusion yourself.

In folk medicine, a lot of funds are used to treat bruises and swelling. One of the most famous is, of course, a decoction of the bodyguard. Infusions of plantain and wormwood also have an anti-edema effect. With bruises a good result is given by any ointments with anti-inflammatory effect without warming action, and also a cream from bruises. The effect of the use of ointments and creams is due to the fact that their active substances remove irritation of tissues, reduce puffiness, promote resorption of hematomas. In addition, many anti-inflammatory ointments have analgesic effect. Painful sensations should pass approximately on the fourth days after the beginning of treatment. If this does not happen, contact your doctor immediately.

A small bruise of the chest does not pose a danger to human life, is not accompanied by severe clinical manifestations and, with rest and proper treatment, the victim quickly returns to his normal life. If the damage is extensive and deep, specialized assistance is required. Contusion of the chest is dangerous for its complications: sometimes up to surgical intervention.

If you have already earned a chest injury, then do everything possible so that the trauma does not lead to serious consequences! Observe all the rules for caring for patients, if necessary, send the patient to the hospital.
