Characters of the Harry Potter universe: Igor Karkarov. Biography and entertaining facts

Since Joan Rowling published her first book, the magical world of Harry Potter and its inhabitants began to be carefully studied not only by fans, but also by critics. Fans of the epic were interested in the fate of the main characters, and secondary characters, not particularly affected the plot. Among these people - the insidious director of Durmstrang - Igor Karkarov. Unfortunately, in the film epic biography of this character is given very little screen time. It is necessary to correct this mistake and get to know the hero closer.

Cycle "Harry Potter": Igor Karkarov (photo and biography)

The first acquaintance with the character in the readers occurs in the book "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire" when he arrives at Hogwarts with his students for the Tournament of Three Wizards.

Throughout the novel, Harry and his friends gradually find out the truth about who Igor Karkarov was earlier.

About the early years of the character, almost nothing is known: when and where he was born, or why he joined Voldemort. It is known only that he comes from Northern Europe and is a purebred magician.

During the coming to power of the Dark Lord, Karkarov joined the ranks of his comrades-in-arms, becoming a Death Eater. However, as practice has shown, this was done not for ideological reasons, but because of the desire to save one's skin.

Being in the ranks of the elite Volan de Mort, Igor Karkarov participated in the torture and murder of wizards disliked by his master.

Luck turned from Karkarova, when he tracked down and captured the famous obscurantist Alastor Mood. Once in Azkaban, this wizard, in exchange for freedom, gave out all the companions of the Dark Lord, which he knew. Although some of the dark wizards he named were already arrested long ago, thanks to Karkarov, he managed to expose one of the most clever spies in the Ministry of Magic - Augustus Rukvud.

Shortly after his release, Igor Karkarov receives the post of director at the magic school Durmstang. Rowling's books do not give clear explanations of how a former prisoner was able to obtain such an important post. However, from the feedback about this educational institution, it becomes clear by itself. School Durmstrang always had a bad name because of the love of its teachers for dark magic. Moreover, in the northern lands where it was located, there was a very harsh climate, and the school had very scarce funding, so most Durmstrang students learned in terrible conditions. Among other things, Durmstrang had very strict rules for students, and the main method of education was intimidation. With such a characteristic of the educational institution it becomes clear that not every wizard wanted to teach here, especially since in the magical environment the profession of the teacher was not very popular. It should also be taken into account that Karkarov feared the revenge of other Death Eaters for his betrayal, and Durmstrang was in a secret place, which was not known to many - therefore he became an ideal refuge for the hiding magician.

Becoming a director, Igor Karkarov only exacerbated the dismal reputation of Durmstrang. With him, the cruelty of the teachers reached its climax.

Tournament of Three Wizards and the return of the Dark Lord

During the Tournament, the director of Durmstrang tried his best to win Victor Kram. To do this, he cheated with the ratings, overestimating his champion's scores and understating them to other participants. In addition, he circumvented the rules and tried to find out the details of the assignments.

Staying at Hogwarts for Karkarova was overshadowed by the presence of Moody there, who had once imprisoned him in Azkaban. In addition, the professor was unpleasant to communicate with Severus Snegg. At the same time, having sensed that the Devourer's tag was beginning to burn on his hand, Igor turned to Severus for advice, trying to understand what was happening, but he contemptuously waved him away.

After the Dark Lord could regain his physical shell and again began to gather an army of associates, Karkarov realized that he was doomed. Therefore, he disappeared in an unknown direction and successfully hid during the year. However, in the summer of 1996, the Death Eaters were able to find him and kill him.

The character of Karkarova

This character is one of the most disgusting in the book. He is completely devoid of the notion of honor. Its main principle is to survive. Obeying him, the director of Durmstrang is ready to lie, betray, kill and create, whatever.

Being a far-sighted and very quirky person, only in moments of weakness Karkar is able to manifest his true essence - a flattering scoundrel, accustomed to fawning before the strong and trampling in the mud of the weak.

Another bright feature of this hero was the propensity for sadism. He loved torturing others. Being a Death Eater, he helped to torture the enemies of the Dark Lord, and becoming a director, he oppressed his disciples. By the way, with him in Durmstrang stopped taking muggle-born wizards.

Igor Karkarov - actor Predrag Belaz

On the screen of this unpleasant character, the Serbian actor Predrag Bjelac played.

Starting his career back in the mid-eighties, in American cinema, this artist was able to break through only in the first decade of the two thousandth.

His first major achievement was participation in the television series "Children of Dune", after which he played an Italian tourist in the film "Eurotour".

In 2005 Predrag Belaz appeared on the screen as a character named Igor Karkarov. The actor (his biography before this role was of little interest to anyone) instantly became famous throughout the world. Then came the roles in Omena and The Chronicles of Narnia. After that, Belaz's career began to decline. Today it is removed, but not so often and in not very well-known projects.

Interesting facts

  • The book does not say exactly about the nationality of the director of Durmstrang, but many consider him a Russian because of Igor's name and the suffix "s", characteristic of the names of Slavic origin.
  • By the way, another theory of the origin of the name of this hero is possible. Since the creator of Harry Potter is very respectful of Tolkien's creativity, many believe that she named Karkarova in honor of the werewolf from the "Silmarillion".
  • In the film, Igor Karkarov - brown-eyed brunette, who often uses dark colors in clothes. But in the book he has blue eyes and he dresses in light colors, he prefers white and silvery.
  • In the film, only one court session is shown, at which the director of Durmstrang issued Barty Crouch, Jr.. In the original work, this character was present at 3 trial panels, one of which testified against Belatrice Lestrange and her brothers.

Despite the fact that Igor Karkarov causes readers only contempt, it is worth noting that JK Rowling in his person was able to demonstrate his ability to create a variety of characters. So, Karkarov does not look like anyone else from the world of Harry Potter, being unique and proving once again that in the books of Rowling every character and his character are carefully thought out.
