Cerebral Palsy: Is it a verdict or not?

Cerebral Palsy is a disease in which the postures and motility disorders caused by Trauma of the brain. Children's cerebral palsy causes a disruption in the activity of the muscles of the limbs, trunk, neck or head. There are several forms of the disease: from barely noticeable to severe, leading to disability. In some cases, sick children may lose hearing, sight, speech. Disease can affect the child's intelligence. Cerebral death does not result in cerebral palsy, but significantly shortens life expectancy.

Causes of the disease

Similar to cerebral palsy, conditions can occur at any age after an infectious disease, stroke, or trauma to the skull. The defeat of the fetal brain during pregnancy or childbirth causes infantile cerebral palsy. The causes of the occurrence are in many cases unknown. During pregnancy, the expectant mother could injure the fetus after receiving any trauma, or get a dose of radiation. Toxicosis, diabetes mellitus, incompatibility of the mother's blood and the child's blood - all this can also be the cause. Cerebral Palsy is not a hereditary disease. No child is insured from it. Also, early / late births or abnormal births can result in the development of cerebral palsy, as a result of which the infant's head is injured.

Types of cerebral palsy

Cerebral Palsy is a persistent CNS lesion. There are five forms of motor function impairment:

  1. Tremor tremor.
  2. Frequent voluntary movements (atemosis).
  3. Imbalance (ataxia).
  4. Muscle tension, which is a resistance to passive movements (rigidity).
  5. Increased muscle tone, decreasing in motion (spasticity).

In the location of the location four groups are distinguished:

1. Monoplegic - one limb.
2. Diplegic - a violation of the functions of the two extremities (either upper or lower).
3. Hemiplegic - partial or complete impairment of functions on one side of the body of the two limbs.
4. Quadriplegic - partial or complete violation of the functions of all limbs.

Treatment of cerebral palsy

Diagnosis of cerebral palsy is carried out, as a rule. Within two years after the birth of the baby. For many people, cerebral palsy is a death sentence. After all, a child with such a disease actually has no future. Families in which such children are born often break up. Few parents continue to raise a child, often give it to the homes of disabled people or to bring up grandparents. However, the state of the child with cerebral palsy can be improved through training, which is primarily aimed at improving muscle activity. A comprehensive program, which includes permanent muscle loads, psychological and speech therapy, can facilitate the life of parents and children. Until the age of three, only conservative treatment is used, without surgical intervention. This period of life for parents is the most complicated, since the illness is reflected not only in the physical, but in 50% of cases on the intellectual development of the child. After three years, operative treatment in a complex of procedures will help normalize the musculoskeletal system, up to the point that the child can sit, walk and even serve himself, but, nevertheless, the disease will not be completely cured.
