Cathedral St. George's Cathedral of Vladikavkaz - the center of spirituality of Christians of Alanya

St. George's Cathedral in Vladikavkaz was appointed guardian of the miraculous relics of St. George the Victorious. The majestic temple with five domes and a tented bell tower is a pearl and architectural monument of the Republic of North Ossetia-Alania.

Excursion to the history

The construction of the St. George's Cathedral in Vladikavkaz was started on October 18, 1996. In 2003, worship services were held in the church and religious rituals were performed. However, construction work on its territory has not been finalized and continues to the present.

The city authorities for its construction were given a place on the territory of the former cemetery in a picturesque corner of the capital of the Republic of North Ossetia-Alania. Funds for the construction of the temple were collected by the whole world at the expense of charitable donations of believers and various organizations.

Architect Yu. A. Naniev as a model for the creation of the project was chosen Cathedral of Michael the Archangel, in the early twentieth century was located in Vladikavkaz, but destroyed in the Soviet era.

Activity and history of the attainment of sacred objects

On the territory of the cathedral are offices of the Vladikavkaz and Alansk eparchy. It is administered by Bishop Leonid. Sunday school works at the church. Clergymen conduct religious and educational work for the spiritual development of parishioners. Since September 2010, the Orthodox Gymnasium has been working at the temple.

After the miraculous shrine was taken to St. George's Cathedral in Vladikavkaz, thousands of believers defended solemn service in the church and on the street, as the temple could not accommodate all those who wished to attend this divine service. Then people spent several hours in a long line to touch the ark. The next morning the ark was delivered to a helicopter, which circled for several hours over the whole republic for its consecration by the relics of the heavenly patron.

The relic is kept in the St. George's Cathedral of Vladikavkaz, and all Christian believers come here to worship the shrine. In the temple an icon with a relic of the holy righteous warrior Fedor Ushakov was placed. Spiritual instructors of the cathedral and the diocese take part in all life situations to help those in need. They work with military personnel, prisoners, inmates of orphanages and shelters, as well as with parishioners of the temple. Here, sacred objects are brought, so that thousands of believers can have access to them and ask for help in difficult life situations.

Relics of the Cathedral

April 15, 2017 in St. George's Cathedral of Vladikavkaz was delivered from the Church of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem, the Easter blessed fire, where he was received by the Bishop of Vladikavkaz and Alan Leonid. These relics were in the cathedral for about a month and were available for worship.
