The demand for cast iron in various spheres of life is undeniable. From the decorative elements of architecture to drainpipes and sewer hatches - its properties to withstand the effects of the environment make it possible to use products from this material almost everywhere. The weight of such products is quite large, which creates some inconvenience, but they are very successfully compensated for by durability and wear resistance. However, this statement is true only for the products of reputable manufacturers, the technology and technology of which allow them to produce a material that meets the requirements of GOST. Actually, first of all the quality is determined by the correct choice of the material that will be loaded into the melting furnace, the so-called charge. To obtain cast iron, the charge is formed in the form of blast furnace pigs and scrap with the addition of steel waste and fluxes. Selection is carried out in accordance with the required chemical composition of the casting, which, in turn, is determined by its purpose. The selection should also take into account the likely changes in composition with increasing temperature or contact with fuel during melting. For example, a correctly calculated technology takes into account the change in the amount of carbon, the oxidation of manganese and silicon contained in the alloy, and an increase in the sulfur content. Calculation of the charge composition is done with an amendment to such changes.

The quality of the resulting castings is tested for stretching and bending. Test results according to GOST are reflected in the marking of cast iron. At the modern level, thanks to the developed technologies, it has great potential. Despite this, designing a product from this material, designers try to combine the functionality of the product, its appearance with the most lightweight configuration. This is done to simplify molding, which ultimately leads to the convenience and quality of subsequent operations - stumps and cleaning. This is especially true for those types of cast iron, which due to their properties are more difficult to handle due to their own propensity to crack. Another reason for simplifying the molding is to reduce the cost of the product. Manufacturing of geometrically complex castings is inevitably associated with an increase in the price of work, so in many cases it is more expedient to resort to manufacturing the product in parts with subsequent welding.

Cast iron foundry is widely used in industry, and used as large-sized castings used in the hydro turbine structure, as well as small parts for electrical networks, pipes and elements of pipelines, manholes. In addition, it is actively used as a way to create decorative elements in interior and landscape design.
