Careful, worms in cats!

To date, worms in cats are one of the most frequent diseases. Sooner or later, every breeder faces this problem. Eggs of worms (or helminths) can be in one of those places that you have chosen for a walk, for example, in gardens, in courtyards, parks and squares.

It will be naive to believe that if your animal does not go out into the street, then the risk of getting sick is practically reduced to a minimum. Owners themselves can bring eggs of parasites on shoes or clothes in the house and, thus, infect pets. Hence it follows that worms and kittens, these newly born baby crumbs - are not so rare.

Your cat, cat or kitten can get sick eating raw meat or fish, when meeting people or animals, with whom, for example, your acquaintances or friends came to you. And also for sure your pet, like all other cats, loves to hunt for flies, and it is flies that are the carriers of worms and their larvae.

Worms in cats cause immense harm to the animal's body: immunity decreases, metabolism is significantly impaired, even internal organs are damaged.

If your kitten has worms, you will be able to determine this probability even by external signs. Usually, such a kid has a dull coat and a bad appetite. The pet appreciably loses its weight, weakens, and sometimes the situation is aggravated by anemia and diarrhea. By the way, the signs of worms in cats and cats are the same, but they have helminthiases often hidden. The exact diagnosis is made only after the identification of eggs of worms in the feces of the animal.

Any veterinarian will agree that worms in kittens are especially dangerous. Sometimes they are so many that they are able to clog and eventually break the walls of the intestines, which will lead to the imminent death of the animal.

Also I would like to warn you - a person and pets often have common types of helminths, so sick cats, cats, or kittens are dangerous for people and especially for children.

Helminths in cats

The most common parasites in cats are helminths of two types: roundworms (nematodes) and tapeworms (cestodes). Let us dwell in more detail on each of them.

Nematodes are small worms, the length of which can be from 6 to 13 mm. They have a characteristic filament shape. Such worms in cats are able to attach to the wall of the small intestine and feed on the blood of the host. Infect nematodes can be in contact with contaminated soil or with feces of other animals, which already contain larvae. In the cat's body, larvae immediately migrate to the lungs and only from there already enter the intestine. After two weeks, the eggs of the worms will appear in the feces.

Cestodes are ribbon worms that affect more often adult cats. The body of the parasite resembles a thin narrow strip of tissue and consists of a huge number of segments, within which develop larvae. In turn, segments with feces come out, so infection with this type of parasites is easy enough to see with the naked eye.

Worms in cats: treatment and prevention

To conduct treatment and preventive maintenance of worms costs not less often, than 2 times a year. And this should not depend on the time of year, nor on whether your darling walks on the street.

Do not forget to drive the worms and before each vaccination, otherwise the animal can begin to have severe complications. In the event that you have a home inhabited by several animals, give the anthelmintic preparation better all at once. By the way, fleas are also considered carriers of some types of worms, therefore, before giving an anthelmintic preparation, you will also have to remove the fleas.

As a rule, the course of deworming should consist of a two-time administration of the drug at intervals of ten days to two weeks. Why? - The thing is that for the present there are no such drugs that would act on the worm larvae, so in one go you will not be able to cure the animal from the parasites.
