Cannibalism in the modern world

The world is amazing not only for its beauty, but for its ugliness and cruelty. It would seem that in the age of new technologies, humanity and other virtues there is no place for primitive cruelty, but life shows that social pathologies such as cannibalism in the modern world still remain. By this term we understand the eating of people by each other. Such a phenomenon exists in the animal world, when representatives of one species eat each other. This is due to hunger or a sense of danger. For animals, cannibalism is a way to survive, to preserve one's kind; For people most often - a way to translate their sick fantasies into life.

There is a well-known case when cannibalism in the modern world helped to survive a group of tourists caught in a plane crash in the Andes in 1972. Survivors could survive only because they used dead bodies for food. They were in ice-cold captivity for 72 days and had no other chance of survival. Such cannibalism leaves an indelible mark on the human psyche in the form of a constantly haunted guilt feeling. It is impossible to get rid of it on your own, this requires the help of specialists. The most obvious example was cannibalism in besieged Leningrad, when people for 100 days did not have the opportunity to receive food of a different kind. It should be noted that there were no murders for subsequent cannibalism, because ate already dead people. Some historians are inclined to believe that in fact cases of eating people at each other were unique at that time and did not have a mass character. They say that the blockade people ate meat from animals such as cats, dogs, and rats. It is impossible to know for certain about the events of that time, as there are practically no eyewitnesses left.

It should be noted that cannibalism in the modern world is not of a mass character, but interesting cases of this phenomenon are known. So, for example, in the spring of 2001, the system administrator Armin Mayves posted several cannibal ads on the Internet. Surprisingly, they still found a response. Bernd Brandes answered the offer to be eaten, which allowed the cannibal to carry out the conceived act with him voluntarily. After this, the court sentenced Mayves and sentenced him to eight years in prison for an unintentional murder. After some time, the case was reviewed and he received a life sentence for his actions.

Today cannibalism in Russia is extremely rare. This can be a manifestation of the mental illness of the offender. As rules, such crimes are serial nature and the people convicted for them, receive a life sentence. Among the famous Russian cannibals of the 20th century, one can name Alexander Spesivtsev, Andrei Chikotilo, Alexei Sukletin. In connection with the moratorium on the death penalty in Russia, they have served or are serving a life sentence in the colonies of the special regime to this day. These people were eaten several dozen people. They did not satisfy their hunger, but they received a perverse pleasure from everything that happened with their victim.

It is impossible to establish for certain the reason that cannibalism in the modern world still exists. There are many reasons for this behavior: traumatic situations, mental anomalies, critical situations. For human society cannibalism is considered a pathology, but do not forget that there are developing African countries, where this phenomenon is part of a centuries-old culture. They are an exception to the rules. Cannibalism is a very complex phenomenon, the causes of which are great. Scientists around the world agree that cannibal can not be cured, and he will always strive to eat human flesh.
