Botanical Garden (Tver) - one of the most remarkable places in the city

The Botanical Garden (Tver) is a green zone, which locals love very much. There is a small forest on the area of 2.6 hectares, a picturesque pond splashes, there is a greenhouse with a greenhouse, and rocky slides, and several wonderful expositions of flowering plants, a children's vegetable garden, and a herbalist's site. On the territory of the botanical garden, scientific research works are carried out, and also it is a favorite place of rest for the townspeople.

History

The Botanical Garden (Tver) was founded in the distant 1879 by the honorary citizen of the city, the merchant of the first guild, Ilya Ivanovich Bobrov. He planned to arrange a green private estate on the bank of the river Tvertsy. The merchant personally planted oaks and larch, which still rustle the leaves and decorate the arboretum. There were laid elegant wooden galleries, arbor-rotunda, an arch bridge was built.

In 1898 the owner of the site was the teacher of natural sciences and botany Leonid Antonovich Kolakovsky. He collected a rich collection of trees, bushes and flowers, forming planting plants on a geographical basis. Through the efforts of Kolakovsky, the estate turned into a small botanical garden. Leonid Antonovich took a small pilot site, where he conducted practical classes for students. In 1930, under the bequest of the owner, the Botanical Garden (Tver) became the property of the city.

Since then, famous botanists AA Lebedev and MLNevsky have been engaged in the garden. They greatly expanded the collection of the arboretum, laid new expositions, built a greenhouse.

Passed decades, and ancient landscapes, despite the stormy historical events and rapid urban development, miraculously survived. Today the botanical garden (Tver), photo of which is in the article, is the pride of the city.

Present day

Now the garden is under the auspices of the Tver State University. In 1996, the capital reconstruction of the arboretum was carried out. In 1998, the program for the conservation of biological diversity in the Tver region was launched.

This unique natural object is not only a favorite recreation place for citizens, but also a base for the educational process of the Tver schools and universities. Here active work is carried out in the sphere of environmental education for children and adults, thematic events and master classes are organized, city holidays and concerts, art exhibitions are held. Everyone can buy an exotic plant: garden staff will help you choose the right option and teach you how to take care of a flower.
