This organization for air passenger transportation was founded in 2002 after the bankruptcy of the Balkan Bulgarian Airlines company. The enterprise is the national airline of the country. The owner of the company today is "Hemus Air", which has a controlling stake since 2006.

Currently, Bulgarian Airlines has purchased British Aerospace and Embraer models for operation on daily and charter flights. The airline has a small number of aircraft - 17 pieces.
