Broken arm

A fracture of the arm is defined as a condition of bone integrity disorder. As a rule, it is associated with mechanical effects. Often, a fracture of the hand occurs during a fall, in a fight, a car accident, or trauma. Rare cases of the condition are associated with a decrease in bone tissue density or destruction. However, as a rule, patients are aware of the possibility of developing such pathologies, so prepare in advance.

Fracture of the arm according to the symptoms is slightly different from the violation of the bone integrity of the other localization.

The first sign of this condition is painfulness with a clear definition of space and time. The patient can accurately point to a site that delivers discomfort and name the period of the onset of discomfort. In this case, soreness has a clear connection with the impact of the traumatic agent (fights, falls, etc.).

A fracture of the hand is accompanied by its deformation. This is due, first of all, to the violation of the integrity of the bone structure. In other words, the limb begins to bend as it should in the normal state.

Violation of the integrity of the bone structure entails complete or partial damage to the function. It should be noted that this condition does not occur with all kinds of fractures. Punctured injuries, as a rule, are not accompanied by disabilities, but the movements cause severe pain. It should be noted that the fracture of the shoulder is characterized by the inability to perform active movements in principle. Passive action causes severe pain.

Some cases are characterized by pathological mobility. In this case, the bone ends can be moved relative to each other. In particular, this condition is noted when injuring the humerus or a combined violation of the integrity of the radial and ulnar bone.

Fractures with displacement differ in limb shortening. The fragments of the bone are "pulled apart" by the contracted muscles. The limb shortening, as a rule, is noticeable to the naked eye.

Violation of integrity is characterized by the presence of crepitus. A bone crunch is felt on palpation, and sometimes distinctly audible. It occurs when rubbing fragments. In view of the soreness of this method of examination, it is used extremely rarely.

Open fractures are characterized by the presence of protruding bone fragments from the wound.

Despite the fact that the diagnosis of the condition is possible after the examination and talking with the patient, a clinical confirmation of the injury is necessary. For this, an x-ray study is used. A snapshot of the affected area is made in a straight and oblique projection.

A frequent result of direct action on the upper limb is a fracture of the finger. As a rule, such injuries occur due to their falling into moving mechanisms or the falling of heavy objects on them. Fractures are accompanied by a sudden sudden soreness, the appearance of bruising and swelling over the affected area. The injured finger may have excessive mobility or, conversely, the volume of its movements is largely limited.

Inspection traumatologist determines the presence of deformation (curvature) of the affected area, the presence of displaced bone fragments. Clarification of the diagnosis for the purpose of selecting the optimal treatment tactics is carried out with the obligatory application of X-ray. Not only the injured area of the finger, but also the next two joints should get to the picture. Radiography of the elderly is carried out on both hands. A snapshot of a healthy hand allows you to accurately identify and differentiate the effects of fracture with age-related changes after arthritis.
