Bookshelves with their own hands. Shelf sizes for books

Books, regardless of the genre of works, it is necessary to keep always in order. As a rule, for storage of paper literature special cabinets or mezzanines are used. Hanging shelves for books are very popular. These devices can be made independently. Next, we'll figure out how the bookshelf is made for oneself.

Simple constructions

The most common are the shelves for books, consisting of vertical racks in which holes are drilled. Special pegs are inserted in them. On them, in fact, and holds a shelf for books. With their own hands to make such a design is not difficult. As racks it is possible to use wooden bars or metal square pipes. Holders of the bookshelf can be a steel corner.

Shelvings

They are different. Shelves for books of the simplest design are made with the help of bars, stacked on two sides. On top of them is laid a wooden panel. The size of the shelves for books can also be different. Everything depends on the number and dimensions of the editions themselves. For example, there may be shelves for books, the dimensions of which are 220x22x2 cm. Bars are recommended for use from larch, pine or fir. It is also possible to apply chipboard or elements of old furniture. For the construction of medium-sized shelves (in 5 shelves) will require about 65 bars. Metal structures are also popular. They are folding, as a rule. When you increase or decrease the number of volumes, you can add or remove shelves for books. You can mount the fixtures on the back of the rack. If desired, the bars and shelves can be painted, wallpapered with wallpaper. This simple design is suitable for a room decorated in a minimalist style.

An Important Moment

When the book shelf is assembled by the hands, the distance between the support bars should be at least 1.2 meters. Otherwise, the panel will bend under the weight of literature. In general, this design will look unattractive.

Can I do without bars?

Can. Not everyone would like to see bars on the walls. There are two other ways to make a shelf for books.

1. The first option. In this case, the rack looks like a box. It is built between two walls. This is how the niche is formed. Vertical sides are not formed by a solid board. They are made up of scraps, the thickness and width of which is the same as that of the bookshelf. These parts are basic and used instead of bars. There is a construction like this:

  • The lower shelf is laid on the bars.
  • At the height of the panel, two vertical boards are nailed. Nails need to be driven diagonally.
  • The following shelf is fitted and installed - and so on, until the end.
  • Surfaces are processed, polished and painted.

The second option - invisible mounts

The shelf for books on the wall can be fixed so that the fixing elements will not be completely visible. In this case, the boards are mounted on long screws (they must be 4 - 2 on each side). They are screwed using wooden plugs (rods). Part of the screw that protrudes from the wall will be the support for the shelf. To decorate the protruding element, a plastic tube of the desired diameter can be used. It can be transparent or painted in any suitable color. Screws are recommended for use with a semicircular head. In the areas where these support elements will be screwed, drill holes of the appropriate diameter. Instead of metal screws, you can use pins made of solid wood. As well as supporting elements, they must enter the recesses that are made on the underside of each shelf. Difficulties can arise with the installation of pins strictly horizontally. To control the position (vertical / horizontal) it is necessary to use the level. There are also supports in the form of a violin, with a clutch or screw thread. They are easy enough to install shelves - both from wood and glass. Such structures are strong enough and attractive in appearance. The holes for the support parts must be drilled accurately, so that they are located strictly parallel.

Cremalery

You can install shelves along the wall, without forming a niche. Here, it would be possible to fasten the brackets using rack brackets (rack mounts). There are different types of frame designs. For example, there are those where vertical bars are covered with panels of lacquered or waxed wood or plywood, which is covered with material. As a result, only the shelves and consoles are visible. This design allows completely to mask any surface defects. You can also use metal or wooden racks, which are placed by the enemy from the ceiling to the floor. They are fixed blocks - quadrangular compartments. Fastening of shelves is carried out with the help of spacer screws.

Suspended bookcases

Instead of the usual designs, it is possible to make hinged open shelves or cabinets without a back wall. They are easily fixed with two bolts and braces. The first is screwed into the wall. Staples (pendants) are fixed to the shelves on the back side. The latter can also be fastened in racks with notches. In this case, they will be invisible. Such hanging shelves are assembled from chipboard. Two-centimeter boards are joined to each other using an insertion stud, putty and painted.

Shelving "cubes"

This might look like a children's bookshelf. The construction of the structure by the principle of playing into cubes allows you to create funny structures, taking as a basis numerous combinations. Laying individual boxes in the "Christmas tree" in the center of the room, you can divide the two parts of the library with editions of different subjects. For example, it can be entertaining and educational literature. Bookshelves-boxes can also be placed along the walls at a certain distance between the structures. The gaps between the boxes can also be used by increasing the total storage capacity. Collected boxes of chipboard, the thickness of which is 1 cm. The dimensions of the boxes are 50x23x25 cm (approximate). In each box, two boards (top and bottom) can be used, 50x23 cm each, sides - 25x23 cm and a rear wall 48x23 cm. Since the width of all elements does not exceed 23 cm, it is only necessary to cut the parts along the length. When cutting, it is recommended to mark and saw the material one by one. It should not be all at once. This is due to a probable error when cutting in 3-4 mm.

Assembling of boxes

The side walls are attached to the ribs of the back side. For fixation, you can use cloves and / or glue. After that, the upper board and the bottom are attached to the side and rear parts. After that, the entire structure is dried (if glue was used). All sides of the box must be proportional and equal in relation to each other. Edges are ground, sharp corners and edges are rounded. In conclusion, the structure can be painted. If it is intended for storage of children's books, then it can be decorated in color, make applications or use colored paint. When choosing materials for finishing, it is necessary to take into account their safety for the person, especially for the child.

Rotating Shelf

It can be a piece of furniture and placed in a recreation area. It is very convenient to use a shelf on roller wheels. Very modern and attractive looks such a design, painted in two colors (red and white or white and ocher). In general, the design is fairly simple to manufacture. The main difficulty can be only fitting and fixing components at right angles. To build a bookcase you will need:

  • The bar is 2x2 cm. It will act as a support rod. Cant be better to take from beech or oak.
  • Board thickness of 2 cm.
  • Glue.
  • Nails.
  • Roulette.
  • Corner.

Preparatory work

The boards are cut to the same shelf. A support rod is made from the bar (the desired length is cut off). On the shelves, you should draw the diagonals and draw a square in the center of their intersection. Its cross-section must exactly correspond to the size of the bar. In the upper and lower shelves cut through the square. It should be such that the support bar enters into it without difficulty. Sampling of wood can be done with a chisel. Further lateral vertical walls-partitions are made. All finished elements are sanded. To facilitate the process, on the shelves - from the bottom and top sides - you need to put a label where the vertical partitions will be located.

Build technology

Four vertical partitions are glued and nailed to the support rod. So the first floor will be formed. The entire structure is glued and nailed to the bottom shelf. The upper edges of the vertical partitions are smeared with glue. The next shelf is attached to the rod and nailed. Next, vertical partitions of the next floor are fixed in the same way. Carnations are hammered obliquely. Their hats need to be drowned with a riveted hammer. By the way, you can replace them with wood screws. Next, the next shelf is glued and nailed. The work is repeated until all the parts have been installed. At the level of the last vertical partitions, the support center rod is cut. Next, four side walls are glued and nailed. They should be so long that the upper part protrudes 1, and the lower one - 2 cm behind the edges of the horizontal elements. From the bottom four rollers on the axes are fixed. Their total height is 9 cm. After that, the surfaces are again carefully sanded, all the edges are smoothed, the edges are ground. After the completion of these works, you can start finishing the bookcase. It can be painted, varnished or decorated with decorative carved elements. This design does not take up much space, is compact and convenient.
