Astrakhan Drama Theater: history, repertoire, troupe

Astrakhan Drama Theater was founded in the early XIX century. Today in his repertoire are performances of contemporary playwrights and classics of the genre.

History

December 12, 1810 saw the first performance of Astrakhan. The drama theater, photo of the building of which is presented in this article, was opened on this particular day. The presentation took place in a wooden barn, which the merchant Tokarev adapted to the spectacle. The theater was organized by the retired lieutenant A. Gruzinov. In the first year the troupe gave more than 40 performances. Since 1857, only the artists invited to the tour have performed in the theater. A new stone building for the Astrakhan Drama was built in 1887. The author of the building project is the architect Volrad. The theater was built on the money of an honorary citizen of the city of NI. Plotnikova, who was the initiator of his erection.

The troupe was headed by P.Medvedev. He was in constant search of young talents. In the 90s of the XIX century, touring companies often came to the city. In Astrakhan L. Sobinov, M. Ermolova, F. Shalyapin, V. Komissarzhevskaya, L. Tselikovskaya and others visited.

After the revolution, the repertoire of the theater radically changed. The main public were sailors and soldiers, the performances were put corresponding. During the war years, the Astrakhan drama again had to rebuild its work and change the repertoire so that it would correspond to the spirit of the times.

In 1986, the Drama Theater (Astrakhan) was awarded the Order of the Badge of Honor. And a year later was closed for restoration, which lasted 7 years. At this time, the troupe was forced to wander in strange scenic stages. But this did not stop the staff from delighting their viewers with new productions.

After the restoration, the theater began to work in a different direction. The repertoire includes new performances, as they say, for every taste. In addition to classics, there were avant-garde, musical and children's productions.
