Some home craftsmen argue that if you make a lathe on wood with your own hands, then the collector motor of an alternating current is not the best choice for this venture.

The problem is that if there is no load on the shaft, such electric motors can go "in raznos". This means that the speed at a nominal supply voltage increases uncontrollably. Thus, there is a possibility of occurrence of the following phenomenon: if the impact of the cutter on the workpiece is weak or absent, then the revolutions of this workpiece can gain unacceptably high speed. Under the influence of centrifugal force, this blank can be pulled out of the centers of the lathe.

Such a phenomenon may pose a risk of injury for the home master. Accordingly, such engines are installed only with the presence of a special reducer or electronic regulator. In principle, a small lathe on wood with their own hands can be made with the help of a DC motor. In fact, it can be extracted even from an old tape recorder.

Now, as for the leading center of construction. It can be manufactured in several ways:

  • The center, in which a thin-walled tube of steel is used, is mounted on the motor shaft. This method is attractive for its simplicity, but it also has disadvantages: a) it is impossible to process a workpiece smaller in diameter than the inner diameter of the tube; B) difficulties with rapid dismantling.
  • Faceplate: the workpiece is attached to the faceplate with screws, passed through the holes in it. Disadvantage - processing of parts whose diameter is less than the diameter of the faceplate is difficult.
  • Center: a special cartridge is manufactured. Cons: a) it is not easy to manufacture; B) the end of the workpiece must be machined under the cartridge.

Machine frame: the electric motor is fixed depending on the design. Its shaft should be oriented along the edges of the frame, taking into account the height of the shaft above it and the distance between the toolholder and the workpiece.

Rear (driven) center: it is located on the back of the headstock and is designed to fasten long blanks.

The lathe on a tree by own hands can be made with the help of an electric drill. To produce it, you need a flat and dry board, the thickness of which is 20-30 mm. An electric drill is fixed to one end of the board with a clamp. Drive is ready. Now you need to master the lead center. This is done by the method of selecting a metal rod or screw and a steel plate. The dimensions will depend on the electric drill chuck.

The plate is given a corresponding shape, and a groove is made in the core for it. Both parts are connected with screws / rivets and the end of the rod (free) is clamped in the holder of the electric drill. Now in the wooden workpiece on the end face of the center - it is done with a knuckle and it is made to be washed at the mark for the thickness of the plate. In this groove (drunk) is inserted the center, and the workpiece is clamped by the tailstock. It can be cut out of wood, screw the corners of the metal into the resulting bar, and then install it on the board.

Further actions:

  • A drill bit is clamped into the holder of the electric drill, somewhat smaller than the diameter of the bolt center.
  • In a bar with metal corners, you need to drill a through hole, moving it along the board.
  • A cone is formed at the end of the bolt - center and a nut and washer is put on it.
  • The center is screwed into the hole of the bar and another nut and washer is put on it.
  • The tailstock is attached to the board with screws.

The lathe on wood is ready! It should be noted that to implement the proposed idea into reality, you will need drawings, accurate calculations and skillful hands.

The milling machine on a tree by own hands will make it is more difficult, but house craftsmen cope and with such task. There are instructions to make such an assembly even managed by a personal computer. And the whole process is carried out at home, without any tangible cash costs.
