Aquarium frogs: Description and conditions of detention

Recently, in domestic aquariums, in addition to fish, newts and turtles, you can increasingly see water frogs. They are quite unpretentious and, with proper care, will delight their master for several years.

Shport's Aquarium Frogs

At home, usually contain amphibians, which were specially imported from Africa. The most popular is the shporsevaya aquarium frog. It is large enough - up to 15 cm in length. Therefore, when buying such a pet, consider that a small aquarium is not suitable for it.

Shportsevaya frog has a very interesting appearance: close-set eyes, large mouth. These features make her appearance very uncommon, slightly smiling and tricky. The forelimbs are considerably smaller than the posterior ones and do not have membranes. In addition, it is worth noting that they are turned inside. The hind legs are more developed, have webs and claws. Orientation in the amphibian water is helped by hairs that grow in noticeable depressions on the body.

Great popularity among fans of these animals is enjoyed by the aquarium white frog - this is an artificially derived species of shporsevoy amphibian. Other representatives of this species have a brown color with noticeable spots.

The water in the aquarium, in which this frog dwells, will have to be changed often enough - every 3 days, otherwise the animal will live in conditions of unsanitary conditions. However, it does not need additional artificial aeration and filtration. It feeds most often with insects, but it does not refuse from the earthworm, small pieces of meat, minced meat or fish. Such a frog is best kept in a separate aquarium. Otherwise, she will eat all the small fishes and other small neighbors.

Aquarium frogs hymenocircus

Unlike the Szportsev breed representatives of this species have a fairly small size. Adult individuals grow to 4 cm in length. The hymenocourse has a long body with a pointed muzzle and thin legs. It has a gray color with dark spots and a lighter abdomen. Female, as a rule, is slightly larger than the representatives of the stronger sex.

To this amphibian could not jump out of the aquarium, it must be constantly covered with a lid, leaving only a small space for air access.

Hymenohiruses are more thermophilic than shportsevye aquarium frogs. Their maintenance at home requires strict adherence to the temperature regime. If the water is colder than 20 degrees, then this amphibian begins to ache.

They give preference to live food (tubular or moth), but also can be fed with special dry mixtures.

You can keep them both in a separate aquarium, and together with the fish. However, it is worthwhile to avoid the large predator neighbors, as the Hymenocorus can become their lunch.

Aquarium frogs pipa Corval about
