Doberman or Rottweiler? Comparison and advice to hesitants

When people plan to start a guard dog, their choice often stops on two breeds, which we will talk about today in this article. "Who is better: Rottweiler or Doberman?" - this question worries many owners, although it seems to us incorrect.

These are two service breeds, endowed with their own merits and demerits, requiring compulsory training. The choice should be based on the owner's abilities and experience in the upbringing of such animals, their purpose, the conditions of family living. Both dogs have serious characters, so we will provide you with a small comparative review, which, perhaps, will help you to understand which dog is more suitable for you.

Doberman or Rottweiler?

Perhaps, we will begin with the history of these breeds. The Doberman was formerly called the Thuringian Pinscher. In 1899, the breed received its current name in memory of its creator, Friedrich Luis Dobermann. In order to breed this breed, numerous crossings were carried out in Germany, most of whose participants were non-purebred animals. As a result, a dog was obtained with a rather formidable appearance, often expressing aggression.

As for the second hero of our article, we can say with confidence that the Rottweiler is the representative of one of the oldest breeds of dogs on the planet. Strong and large, endlessly brave, surrounded by numerous speculations and gossip dog, the origin of which remains a mystery for researchers today.

The breed is also bred in Germany, and its name was given in honor of the town of Rottweil. There is a version that coal-black Molossians, which later settled throughout Europe, became descendants of the Tibetan mastiff. Another version claims that the ancestors of the Rottweiler were native Aboriginal dogs and Phoenician dogs.

At the time of the birth of the breed in the vicinity of Rottweil lived two varieties of black large dogs. Some were more muscular and powerful, and they were entrusted with the transportation of heavy loads, but for the shepherd's service they did not fit: they simply collapsed from fatigue during the rearing of the herd.

The second species was noticeably smaller, more enduring and smart. These dogs were used to guard and haul livestock and protect the owner and the money they received. The fact is that they were often planted by German butchers, who put the proceeds in a purse and hung it on the neck of the dog. No thief dared to steal this capital.

At the beginning of the 20th century the breed practically disappeared due to its uselessness: cattle were transported by rail. However, by the middle of the twentieth century, she was reborn in a new capacity - as a guard and assistant police, and even later she was put on the fighting rings.

External Features

To understand which breed suits you best - the Doberman or Rottweiler, you need to take into account their external characteristics and dimensions.

Doberman - a large dog. His height at the withers is from 68 to 72 cm (males) and from 63 to 68 cm (bitches). The animal is quite slim, with a sporty physique. With such impressive growth, the dog's weight does not exceed 45 kilograms, and bitches - 35. Rottweiler and Doberman (photo you can see in the article) - animals are muscular and strong.

Doberman has a pumped neck, wider at the base. Thorax is wide, well developed. Strong paws slightly resemble felines. A short shiny coat has both a Doberman and a Rottweiler. Comparison of these breeds allows us to assert that they have similar colors: black, brown (the Doberman has an extremely rare blue color) with red tan marks, which are located on the neck, paws, muzzle, and superciliary arches.

What does the Rottweiler look like?

This dog is very harmoniously composed: in powerful short paws the force and power are concentrated, the wide head gives to the animal either aggressiveness or cheerfulness - it depends on the situation. The body of the dog is massive, the wide muzzle is distinguished by a large jaw. The thorax is well developed. It falls down to the beginning of the elbow joints.

Compact paws have a rounded shape. The wool, like that of the Doberman, is shiny and smooth. The main color is black with tan marks. The standard growth of a male is 69 cm, and bitches are slightly lower - 58 cm. The weight of an adult animal usually does not exceed 60 kg. In recent years (especially in avian markets), the Rottweiler and Doberman mestizos are increasingly common. Therefore, it is recommended to purchase animals of these breeds in specialized nurseries. Although mestizos can also be great companions and guards, but they are not available for exhibition.

Character

If you decide: the Doberman or Rottweiler is more suitable for you, it is necessary to know about some peculiarities of the character of these animals. Dobermann is considered by the type of nervous system a pronounced choleric: a stubborn and poorly yielding dog. But this opinion is held only by those people who are new to this breed. In fact, the Doberman is a vigilant defender and guardian, as well as a great companion that adapts perfectly to the family.

Doberman is able to feel the master's mood very thinly. He becomes a loyal friend, but only for a kind and intelligent master. Communication with other pets, if any, in your home is not easy. Dobermans are dogs with a sensitive nervous system, especially when the situation changes dramatically. Therefore, if you have an aggressive cat or dog that can provoke a relationship, then, most likely, quarrels can not be avoided.

Given the adequacy of pets living in the house, Dobermans become their protectors and even accomplices: for example, they can distract the owner when the cat steals from the table different treats.

What good is a Rottweiler?

This is a dog with a very high intelligence and at the same time very cunning - this can not be underestimated. If you notice that your favorite dog has stopped performing your team and at the same time looks at you with clear, honest and uncomprehending eyes, be sure - he just deceives you.

Rottweiler is not just a reliable guard - it is a full member of the family, who equally loves their owners and their children, although unquestioningly obeys only one person. The family behaves wonderfully affectionately, like a cat, though, with very young children, problems can arise. Rottweiler never, and under no circumstances, will offend the child of the owners, even if it will cause significant inconvenience. But thanks to the large size and weight of the body, the dog can touch a small child who will fall and hit hard.

Care and Feeding

Both breeds are smooth-haired, so care for them is simple. These dogs are weakly weeded, but once every two weeks they should be combed with a special brush, unless, of course, you are burning with the desire to remove the wool throughout the house.

The owner should decide whether to use ready-made food or natural food, often the recommendations of the breeder, from whom the animal is purchased, influence the choice. Experts believe that natural food can significantly prolong the life of pets. Ready-made feeds also have an advantage - they include all the vitamins that are necessary for the development of the animal.

Who is stronger: Doberman or Rottweiler?

This question interests many owners. On physical strength and endurance, these dogs are approximately equal. However, the Doberman is taller, more agile and quick-witted. But, as a rule, his quickness manifests itself before the first terrible roar of the Rottweiler.

Let's sum up the results
